This is comical - Clinton gave bu$h 1 his bed on Indonesia trip
Clinton sleeps on floor so elder Bush can have bed
Sunday, March 6, 2005 Posted: 6:28 PM EST (2328 GMT)
NEW YORK (AP) -- On their tour of tsunami damage in Southeast Asia, former President Bill Clinton once allowed his predecessor, former President George H.W. Bush, to sleep on the plane's only bed while he stretched out on the floor.

The government plane in which the presidents toured the disaster area had one large bedroom and another room with tables and seats, according to an interview with Bush in this week's Newsweek.

Bush, 80, said Clinton offered ahead of time to give the older former president the bedroom so he could lie flat and avoid paining his body. Clinton, 58, decided to play cards in the other room that night.

The next morning, Bush said he peeked in and saw Clinton sound asleep on the plane's floor.

1. God forbid he avoid paining his body!!!
I'm sure someone who had heart bypass surgery this fall qualifies in that category too. The Big Dog just has manners. Always has.

3. I think Bush likes Clinton better than his own Bush
Clinton followed Bush 41's advise and didn't invade Iraq, because that would cause a bloody insrugency.

I think Clinton was just respecting his elder, really.

5. maybe Poppy learned an important lesson:
Not everyone lives by "every man for himself."

What Clinton did was just common courtesy and respect. It's what I would expect any mature person to do.

7. Two Great Ones on board and only one bed. Some lowly aide's
head should roll for this. Since when has any expense been spared for the Empire's royalty?

8. But this isn't "Clinton's bed" is it?
What was the alternative, fighting over it? Bill did the right thing, but I'm not surprised.

9. Which one had the recent bypass surgery?
Chimp senior, if he had any decency, should have insisted that Bill take the bed. OK, so he's eighty. But he's jumping out of airplanes. One night on the floor of an airplane wouldn't have killed him.

Please let the Outrage Brigades not sound the trumpets on this.

A post I made in another thread about this, responding to someone who thought it was JUST HORRIBLE that Bush got the bed and Clinton got the floor:

==

'Exhibit A'

for why people won't (or shouldn't) take us seriously.

Let's suss that last comment out.

"Its submission! Poppy Bush is crap!"

This brings three thoughts to mind.

1. Bush is much older than Clinton, and if inly one bed was available, it was just and proper for the older man to not be forced to sleep on the floor.

(expected response: "But Bush is a Nazi scumbag bastard!!!1 Would you give a bed to a Nazi!!111)

2. Imagine if Clinton did the bidding of the lunatic fringe and made Bush take the floor. There would have been a picture and a report of the old man sprawled on the deck while Clinton lounged in a soft bed. That's a good image to help us with the folks.

(expected response: "But Bush is a Nazi scumbag bastard!!!1 Would you give a bed to a Nazi!!111)

3. Towards the end of the Civil War, men who previously had been peaceful became bloodthirsty. Thadeeus Stevens, one of the most ardent defenders of the abolition movement and the rights of slaves, spoke and wrote very casually about hanging everyone who even mildly disagreed with the way the war was being waged. The war transformed him from a man of peace to a murderer at heart. If that kind of thing is happening to us, if we are so desperate to shame and defeat these people that we rejoice at the idea of a very old man sleeping on a floor, we don't deserve to be involved in politics because clearly our passions have so deranged us that we are a danger to ourselves and others.

(expected response: "But Bush is a Nazi scumbag bastard!!!1 Would you give a bed to a Nazi!!111)

12. When I posted this it was not to incite a riot but to demonstrate
the Class and grace that Clinton had and still has. Even for his former foe, he has the respect for his elder. Even in light of the fact that he recently underwent a major surgery.

When Bill Clinton left Washington all this class has appeared to follow him. I am sure the current bu$h would not extend the same graciousness as his predecessor and to prove that one would need to look no further than the picture of him pushing past Clinton and others at the Clinton library dedication.

We need to bring this kind of morality and respect back to the political playing field before we can ever recover from the stains that the GWB regime has put on our country.

13. ditto
This outrage, that an 80 man accepted the offer of a bed, is petty and small.
