Attn: Verizon customers-
I rarely ever read the stuff that accompanies my bills, but I was browsing through my Verizon phone bill this morning and noticed that effective April 1, the fee for unlisted numbers will increase from $1.65 per month to 4.95 per month!!! Fucking greedy shits. There is also a huge increase in the monthly fee for unpublished phone numbers. What is the difference between unlisted and unpublished?

Also, how do I find out about other local phone companies in my area.
I'm dying to call Verizon and tell them to stick it!

2. I used to have an unlisted number. At first there was no charge. Then they

has something like .50 mth. A while back I noticed that it went up to about $1.00 At that point I decided they could list my number, It was getting ridiculous. I do not know the difference between unlisted and unpublished, but $4.95/mth is absurd.
You can have your number listed with just your initial, and without your address(which is what I do)...that may be a good compromise.
EDIT: A frend of mine has her number listed under her maiden name, which serves the same purpose as not having it listed. If you want someone to find you, just tell them where to look. You can have it listed under any name you want, as long as that is the name to which it is billed. It can still be sent to your address, c/o your name.

6. I have a very common name and when I was listed I got calls for other
people all the damn time, especially bill collectors.

I remember one time in particular: I was awakened at 6 AM by Shell credit card collections, looking for a Charles Smith (I was in the phonebook as C. Smith) - I said "No Charles Smith here." They said, "Well, can you help us find him?" As if all of us Smiths are related. :eyes:

I have Verizon and I'm pissed. Deregulation was supposed to mean we could shop around for our service, or so I thought.

11. Very clever of her. I would bet there are a lot of people out there
whose phones are not listed under their real names.
You can have it listed under any name you want. The check that pays the bill does not have to have the same name as the phone registration.
The bill will come to My Dog Fido c/o Jon Doe 1234 Main St. Pleasantville, NY

4. Unlisted numbers aren't in the phone book and

neither are unpublished ones. It costs more to get an unlisted number; I think an unpublished one is the same charge as a published/listed one. If someone calls the phone company and asks for your number and it's unpublished they'll give it to them, if it's unlisted, they won't. So, people have to know your name and want your number to get it. We switched to unpublished a long time ago and haven't had an increase in nuisance calls.

5. Unlisted vs. Unpublished
Unlisted means no one can access the phone number
Unpublished means your number isn't in the phone book but you can get it through information

12. DSL price going up, too.
or down, if you commit...

found this note today.

"Verizon Online is rolling out a new DSL price plan structure that is designed to reward our most loyal customers with our best pricing, as well as allow us to maintain and enhance our best-in-class member services--all to serve you better. Starting March 22, 2005, the current $34.95 a month plan for speeds up to 1.5 Mbps/384 Kbps will increase to $37.95 a month. This same service offering will also be available for just $29.95 with a one-year commitment.

Over the next two weeks, all customers currently on our $34.95 a month plan will be notified via e-mail and U.S. postal mail of this upcoming price increase and offered the option to get in on our lowest price ever: Verizon Online DSL for as low as $29.95 a month. Please check back within the next week to find out when the $29.95 annual plan will be available online."

13. got DSL and phone service (unlimited long distance) for $50/month

it's a good deal.....after 6 months, goes to $60/month...still a good deal, NO taxes because it's all broadband and NOT phone service...includes caller ID, call waiting, call blocking, etc. and UNLIMITED long distance....

not sure where you can get this service, but here, in the Metro DC area, everything is being re-wired for high tech stuff...BROADBAND...digitized phone service and DSL....

14. from your link-
area of service:

Cavalier Telephone is a dynamic, quickly-growing competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) offering full-service telecommunications products in Richmond, Virginia, Greater Hampton Roads, Virginia, Northern Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Doesn't come as far south as FL. :-(

Thinking about going with the Knology.

16. it looks like something similar to Phonom....

I just got it here, and of course, I was nervous about the TECHNOLOGY...but having had it for a month.... it works GREAT....one line with BOTH phone and internet AT THE SAME TIME...and the DSL is real fast, same as my previous cable line....the phone works fine, while working ON-LINE...all my friends say my voice comes through BETTER than my previous 'phone' service....
