september 11th apology to the people of chile
Where the american government will not apologize or even admit its criminal wrong, i personally am very very sorry for the 1973 coup done in the name of the american people. Thousands died and you people endured terrible state crime under the american dictator pinochet. It is not water under the bridge until the USA can apologize for its crime against humanity.

The irony that america remembers this terrible anniversary, that that arrogant nation has learned to be sorry on this day also is life's irony. For all those killed by state terrorism, this date if for you.

<silence>

2. I posted this earlier today
a moment of thought for all 9/11 victims

the date 9/11 has become the symbol of a bloody terror attack on the US. But there is another 9/11, one in which countless thousands, experienced an equally bloody round of terror- terror urged on by the US itself.
On the morning of 11 september, 1973 air force jets bombed the presidential palace in Santiago Chile. the democratically elected president Salavador Allende died in the rubble sometime after.
In the years that followed Chile was turned into an armed prison where its dictator , general Pinochet, was able to road test savage neo-liberal policies to the applause of his backers in Washington and London.

the rest, you might say is history..

all war criminals OBL, Nixon and Kissinger should stand trial in a court of humanity..my heartfelt sympathies go out to ALL victims of oppression and terror..

in solidarity...

The struggle agaisnt the Communism (or real-socialism, or socialism - name it as you want) were the dark side of the US foreign politics between 1945 and 1991. All dictatorships in South America and the Southeast Asia were American creations. This policy is at the origin of the anti-Americanism.

4. Absolutely
I was so glad to see that it was unnecessary for me to post a thread about the coup in '73 on this day.
I expect this year, like last, the U.S. media is going to saturate the airwaves with hundreds of 9/11/01 retrospectives, and bleed its collective heart over the tragedy of that day.
Also, like last year, I doubt if there will be any more than passing reference to the U.S. sponsored reign of terror than began on this day thirty years ago, that led to the deaths and torture of thousands upon thousands of Chileans.
While the events of 09/11/01 were devastating and horrible, I would hope that people could remain aware that we are not the only people who suffer and die at the hands of violent criminals. This would be a perfect opportunity to juxtapose the horrors of two tragic events that share the same day, and maybe remind people of the suffering of others, or at least expand people's world view, but I'm sure the people of Chile will have to be the lesser victim again this year.

To the people of Chile, and the family and friends of the leagally elected and savagely murdered President Allende I express my deepest condolences on this very sad day.
