Editor questions place on Gannons "Enemies List"
Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 10:33 AM by BR_Parkway
The editor of a popular conservative weblog is questioning why his name has appeared on the list of 'enemies' that reporter Jeff Gannon is considering suing. Swift Report executive editor Todd Fox notes that his news site has consistently sided with Mr. Gannon in recent weeks and suggests that the reporter's enmity towards him may date back to a personal misunderstanding over the difference between a professional colleague and an escort.

<snip>

According to Mr. Fox, he first met Mr. Gannon at the Leadership Institute's Broadcast Journalism School in Arlington, VA, where Fox was teaching an accelerated course in journalistic ethics. The two met up again in Washington, DC in 2000, says Mr. Fox, for drinks and 'professional chit chat.'

"I thought JG and I were getting together as professional colleagues, but at some point after we'd both consumed a great many Bluepoints on the half shell and way too much white burgundy, the evening started to feel well, romantic," says Mr. Fox. "I had to be very firm with him that we were having a journalistic meeting of the minds and that this was not a date."

But while the two parted amicably, Mr. Fox says his confusion only deepened a week later when he received an invoice from Mr. Gannon in the mail. "I opened the envelope, very thick ivory paper with JG's monogram, and inside was a bill for $200. Well, I returned it and you better believe that I didn't enclose a check for services rendered." Makes you wonder why this guy got targeted. He certainly is trying to make sure no one thinks he actually "hired" an escort. Everyday a new twist.

1. Just made me think.

Could JG have been in the press pool to compromise some of the others?
If there were blackmail involved that would explain why some in the press continue to not challenge the administration.

2. If he returned the invoice as he states
How does he have such a clear copy of it on the web? Did he scan it before he sent it back or what? I think I need more details about Fox himself and just what happened during the "amicable" part of the evening.

That's not a paper invoice for sure.

7. The invoice is the least of his issues -
didn't he have an obligation to inform the WH of jim/jeff's secondary occupation?

Why did Fox keep the invoice - these are really interesting questions.

3. Helps explain why Jim/Jeff used same name for both of his careers
This is astounding if true, that Gannon combined his contacts as a news reporter with his escort activities. Certainly gives credence to the idea that he may have compromised or even blackmailed many politicos and journalists who are afraid of exposure.

needs to be enlarged and circulated.

9. This guy identifies himself as "ex-gay"???? WHAT THE HELL??
Is he one of those kooks that disregards what all psychologists say and believes that one can be "cured" of gayness. The reporter who is complaining of receiving a bill for Gannon's "services" has his credentials mentioned at the end of the article. He wrote a travel guide for "ex-gay" people.

I'm just a married mom of 3 kids - what do I know? But I can say that a purported ex-gay guy hanging around gay escort is no mere coincidence.

Also, shouldn't escorts get paid in advance of performing their services?

10. order #372... that means 371 preceded Mr. Fox.
Maybe more. He could be on his second, third or fourth invoice book. Sure would like to see that invoice book. ;)

11. When did GanGuck actually attend the school for his "journalistic
credentials"? If I'm reading this right, he was there at LIB before June of 2000 (according to the posted invoice which was their second meeting). And the invoice also has him as a "freelance journalist" - so who was he freelancing for? As someone else pointed out, how did he have a copy of an invoice that he claims to have sent back 5 years ago?

This seems like a disinformation plant, giving them some way to create a history of him being a journalist.

14. I can't believe I fell for that!
It was funny. Now I'm like those people I made fun of who thought "The Onion" was real news. It was a great article. :)

15. Apparently just an unfortunate attempt at satirical humor (hoax article)-
The last thing we need in trying to unravel the strange Gannon puzzle, are phony red herrings like this bloggers attempt at satire.
