1. The answer you seek lies within your question. It's CNN n/t

2. It's CNN trying to be Faux-lite again
The few minutes I've channel-surfed past this idiocy looks like a clone of "Fox and Friends". They never learn do they?

17. With the exception of IMO Lou Dobbs program
And after watching 360 last night maybe Anderson Cooper's show

CNN has gotten as bad, if not worse in some ways than Faux news.

I watched faux news this AM because as I was channel surfing the jerks on "FOX and friends" had a blurb about the SEC going after Howard Stern (I wanted to hear it)

To get to the point I watched for about an hour and it wasn't any more right leaning than listening to that crap show CNN has on in the morning (Bill Hemmer and Soledad or whatever that woman's name is)

I am certainly not saying I like Faux News, it's total propaganda...but CNN is just as bad and what pisses me off is CNN seems to escape the charge that it is a source of fake news and RW spin most of the time.

5. Uh oh. I like that idea of taxing commuters by the mile. It just
might help with sprawl and get communities to start planning more dense development.

Of course, $4/gallon for gas would essentially do the same thing.

6. In theory I think it's an okay idea.
But in order to implement it, you'd have to install meters in people's cars, or find some other way of measuring distance driven. That would be a bit intrusive for my taste.

It would also set the stage for the privatization of the highways. Once the meters or whatever infrastructure was put in place to make people pay per mile, it would be very easy to tranfer ownership of the highway to a private company. My paranoid side says that's what this is really all about.

That and making energy efficient cars pay just as much as SUVs, thereby wiping out any incentive to save gasoline.

Actually... I've convinced myself. I hate the idea!!!

10. NIMBY...It's Great If It's Not Your Car
I live in an area where nothing is within' walking distance...attempts have been made about setting up public transportation but with limited state & federal money...and a consuming public that considers driving an entitlement, such a tax in this area would be devestating.

Besides the taxes on individuals who are hard-pressed right now to make ends meet, and have had to absorb a rise of nearly $1 in oil prices (there's your tax increase) over the past two years...local businesses that don't get the exemptions and need these same vehicles, traveling those same highways, to stay in business. The large corporations can aborb the prices and pass them along to you.

Yes, it would be great to cut down on the traffic, the sprawl and the pollution, but this solution hurts the people its intended to help.

Our transportation infrastructure has long been in need of rebuilding and an over-hauling of the Transportation Dept. from being a government dumping ground for patronage appointeees. Right now, people want war, war, war...and to fill up their Hummers and get up and go wherever they want, whenever they want.

Raising taxes on cigarettes hasn't stopped a lot of people I know who still smoke. They bitch when a new tax is enforced and just ante up until the next hike. Most will pay the extra taxes than look for a quit-smoking program since most insurance providers don't make it easy to cover (smoking lobby).

Raising gas taxes hurt the people who need the help the most and put more money in the government and big oil profits (and if you think they won't take advantage, what planet are you on?).

7. Not so, it entirely does away with the notion of conservation.
So I guess I should sell my hybrid and get an SUV that gets 7 miles a gallon. Wrong.

8. The Dolans are or were Insurance agents/brokers - and pretended to be
Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 10:46 AM by papau
informed on tax law -

which they were not

and informed on rational use of annuity and life insurance products -

which they were not.

Focus groups by the Mutual Funds found that medium to high wealth folks realized the lack of expertise of the Dolans - and the Dolans lost their gig in the media for many years.

Why CNN has brought them back is a mystery.

15. The Dolts Unscripted! Admiti it, cable "news" junkies....
you thought nothing -- nothing -- could be worse than News Yentas (that was the pet media row nickname for On the Story, which the Dolts replaced). News Yentas was an all-woman, all-right-leaning wrap-up (as in wrapped up like a smelly fish) of the week's big stories.

CNNservative News Netwreck actually managed to find something even worse than that! This sort of thing doesn't happen without a lot of planning and pressure from Karl Röve.

Now, everyone projectile-vomit in unison...

16. Turn it OFF. There is NO reason to watch the crap on teevee. It's useless,
pointless propoganda serving no purpose other that to scare and terrify you.

READ instead. The net is a universe filled with real reporting, done in thoughtful segments by people who care about what they're writing about.

It's not sanitized crap rammed into 9 second sound bytes.

Teevee is useless and evil and pointless.
