NYC: Feb 21 is Ashamed He's Our pResident Day
Bands Against Bush NYC and Not In Our Name announces Monday, Feb. 21 show

“ASHAMED HE’S OUR PRESIDENT DAY”

New York City organizers of Bands Against Bush and Not In Our Name announces “Ashamed He’s Our President Day” at The Knitting Factory Main Space on Monday night Feb 21st starting at 7 pm. The Knitting Factory is located at 74 Leonard St in NYC. The night will feature performances by Shellshocked, Fleming, Gladshot and The Black Spoons. Tickets are $7. A portion of the proceeds will go to Not In Our Name.

**According to a new Zogby poll, 31% say they are ashamed of our president**

The Black Spoons: "Dark local poetry-rock with some hearty guitar jangle and sweet Bowie-in-space swish" - Chuck Eddy, The Village Voice

Shellshocked: "Burns with the fire of the early punk sound – the time when garage rock spilled out into the street" - Altar Magazine

Gladshot: They have everything - sing-a-long hooks, strong harmonies, great guitar solos... one of the nicest surprises I have had all year. - Bill Holmes, Pop Matters

Fleming: Embodies a marriage between well-crafted lyrics on near ridiculous subject matter and hard-driving guitar riffs that place them in the upper reaches of the post-punk stratosphere.

The Not In Our Name Project is a national network of individuals and organizations committed to standing with the people of the world. As the Not in Our Name Pledge of Resistance states, "we believe that as people living in the United States it is our responsibility to resist the injustices done by our government, in our names." Our mission is to build, strengthen and expand resistance to stop the U.S. government's entire course of war and repression being waged in the name of "fighting terrorism."

Bands Against Bush NYC has put on over 20 shows since Aug 2003. With the support of talented touring and local NYC bands (Audio Dyslexia, Langhorne Slim, Dead Betties, Afroskull), and the help of such artists as Le Tigre, Ricanstruction, Semiautomatic and Yuka Honda, BAB NYC benefits donated funds to progressive organizations including MoveOn, FEVA, Still We Rise, and United for Peace and Justice.

Bands Against Bush is a national campaign to raise awareness and money to oppose the Bush regime, its warmongering abroad and its assault on civil liberties; social programs; the rights of women, queers, and racial minorities; and the right of all Americans to have access to free and independent media. Bands Against Bush NYC wishes to strengthen and broaden the momentum of this activist thread, while adding our vast diversity of artistic and activist energies to the Bands Against Bush movement.

Bands Against Bush confronts the daily reality of the continuance and initiation of unjust policies by our government. To this end, we disperse information about the policies and ideology of the Bush administration in an attempt to fill the gap left by the increasingly oligarchic and partisan national news media. Recognizing that the possession of knowledge is only an important first step, especially as our government traffics in fear and powerlessness to stifle opposition, we wish to gather people in a space which not only encourages, but exists for the purpose of dialogue and protest and the collective support in exercising our right to dissent.

Art has been a historically effective vehicle and inspiration for protest. Artists of countless genres, backgrounds, and political persuasions are using their creative energies to protest the Bush regime and its policies. Bands Against Bush brings together these artists and the constituencies that they represent to aggregate the power inherent in diversity, a power that derives from a conclusion reached independently in the minds of people inhabiting disparate realities in contemporary American society, the conclusion that the Bush administration does not represent us, and its policies are antithetical to the continued existence of freedom and democracy in the world, and we, as individuals and as a collective, must take action to remedy this breach.

2. Seriously - Isn't this a first???
Yea, I'd like to participate in a Ashamed of my President day too. What an excellent idea!!!! I don't even think Nixon garnered an "Ashamed" day. This is pretty huge. But will it be covered? Answer: Doubtful.
