3. Interesting how the textile industries are now down in Central America..
All that cheap clothing made by non-union sweatshops being sold at the non-union Wal-Marts. And its not just the textile industry.

All at the expense of good paying jobs in the US being moved elsewhere just so some companies don't have to deal with frivolous subjects such as Work Safety, Environmental Protection, Job Security, Wages and Benefits, Income Taxes.

What is the role of the US military again? And just who does the US gov't work for?

8. Tacit admission of guilt?
I, too, remember that just one or two weeks ago, Rummy talked about using the "Hondurean Option" in Iraq. He was tacitly admitting the existance of death squads in Honduras.....hence implicating Negroponte....

oh yeah, one more thing.....

the "death squad option" in Iraq comes up only after Negroponte is named Ambassador to Iraq!!!

Keep this kicked....gotta get publicity on this.............

9. Faux' take
Comments by their idiot political commentator:

1. Already calling him the "intelligence czar".
2. "He has a great diplomatic background, which will be necessary to bring 15 agencies together. The only problem I see in confirming him is his lack of intelligence experience."

duh

10. Old Man Bush to Negroponte: Scrub My Iran/Contra Role & The Job is Yours
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 02:32 PM by David Zephyr
The "surprise" announcement today of Negroponte's nomination to be America's first Intelligence Czar is clear in its purpose. Isn't the quid pro quo obvious? Scrub the records of former President George Herbert Walker Bush's criminal role in the 1980's in unauthorized activities in Central America and you get the job, John.

Negroponte will have unprecedented and unlimited access and dominion over all CIA, FBI, NSC and Pentagon Intelligence files and records which reach clear back to the 1980's when Vice President George Herbert Walker Bush orchestrated the entire illegal war by the "Contras" and death squads in Central America.

Of course, Leon Jaworski, the special independent counsel who exposed so much of Bush's involvement with the Iran/Contra mess never got to see all the evidence that still lingers in our intelligence agencies. And although, Old Man Bush did protect his ass somewhat by pardoning so many of those involved in the crimes that took place in Central America, surely he worries about any other smoking gun documents that might surface some day later in the future soiling his role in American history.

And so, enter Mr. Negroponte. What a curious choice indeed.

Will Negroponte return, shall we say, a favor to the Bush family now out of gratitude for his role as the World's Greatest Super Spy? Will he make the long ago, midnight panic-shredding by Oliver North and Fawn Hall of NSC documents relating to Iran/Contra scandal look sophomoric?

Former President George H. Bush who let Ronald Reagan take the political hit for the exposed Iran/Contra misdeeds laughably once said, "I was out of the loop" about the entire episode. Yeah, he was out of the loop because he the one drawing the circle.

Nancy Reagan is still furious with Oliver North and Old Man Bush for laying this stinking manure on Ronald Reagan's presidency. Convicted Felon Oliver North left Washington, D.C. quietly just before President Reagan's body arrived at the U.S. Capitol along with his widow last year because he admitted that his "presence" would upset the former first lady.

Could Negroponte's appointment have anything to do with the mess that took place in the 1980's in Central America which was all orchestrated by G.H. Bush?

Probably not. The Bush family just doesn't operate like that, do they?

11. It has disturbed me that Negroponte got a free ride...
in the confirmation hearings for UN ambassador and Iraq ambassador. Maybe with the Senate Dems' nascent new spines, there will be some questions this time.

12. MSNBC had a female commentator on this a.m. at about 11:15
(sorry, I don't recall her name). She was talking about what wonderful people Negroponte and his wife are and how they adopted 5 children when they were in Central America.

Nauseating, to say the least.

14. Liars, crooks, CONs and criminals,...in charge of "America the beautiful".
This whole lot is so self-serving that there is absolutely no space for the rest of the American people,...except to the extent they can be SPENT to enable a power-mongering, war-profitteering regime.

This tyrannical leadership,...is into power for themselves.

They HATE anyone who threatens their power,...LOVE all those who toe-the-line and SERVE their interests.

They HATE every evolution towards a pure democracy that has taken place over the last 40 years.

They HATE real "freedom", real "liberty" and anything resembling "equality".

They HATE the U.S.A. as it is,...and they seek to destroy everything gained over the last century.

WANT THE TRUTH?

17. Terrible to remember those terrible times.
snip>

I had to wait 13 years to find out. In an interview with the Baltimore Sun in 1996, Jack Binns, Negroponte's predecessor as US ambassador in Honduras, told how a group of Salvadorans, among whom were the women we had been looking for, were captured on April 22, 1981, and savagely tortured by the DNI, the Honduran Secret Police, before being placed in helicopters of the Salvadoran military. After take off from the airport in Tegucigalpa, the victims were thrown out of the helicopters. Four children had been captured with the women.

They were turned over to the Salvadoran military and their whereabouts are unknown. Binns told the Baltimore Sun that the North American authorities were well aware of what had happened and that it was a grave violation of human rights. But it was seen as part of Ronald Reagan's counterinsurgency policy.

Thanks for the reminder.

He rose through the ranks in El Salvador and eventually became Minister of Defense. I'm glad he's dead and never knew this.

He was conservative, my grandmother liberal. So, she wrote commentary under a pseudonym for 30 years that was published all over Latin America and Europe. lol -- He just could never shut her up. Have to admire that kind of partnership, especially taking into account the time and the place. :)
