pick up a copy of Bush in Babylon: The Recolonisation of Iraq by Tariq Ali.

Esp. in the last chapter one sees how the U.S. is following a long pattern of its own version of colonialism (but via an indirect control of the new gov't) in order to spread capitalism and, hence, make the admin's buddies richer. You'll also see how the nationalists have tried to establish themselves and won't sit quietly for this new raping of Iraq by Bush/Blair.
