2. Yeah right! Let him ride in an unarmored Humvee. He was just shown
shaking hands with troops and Greta said he's there to give out some purple hearts.

If he really gave a shit about anyone there he'd bring 'em home ASAP.

3. Why does America continue to let this CREEP represent us
in any way shape or form.

WHY aren't the American people having a revolution??? Why are there no significant protests? Are we being given some drug in something that makes everyone passive as hell?

God, I ache for the good ole days of the 50's, 60's,...My husband said tonight, "I'm glad I'm old so I don't have to see what's coming"....made me sad.

7. Um, didn't McCarthy represent the US in the 50's?
At least Eisenhower wasn't a total nut job in charge though.

14. If you want that good ole-timey 60's radical feeling
go to C-Span and stream Ward Churchill's speech
at the U of Colorado

it was shown last night
maybe it was given a couple of nghts ago

but there was an audience of HUNDREDS
applauding and shoving fists into the air
and MAN O MAN
it felt like the good ole days

and this guy was not what he was portrayed to be
in the few little headlines
he is speaking truth to power
in your face
and I thought

here it is
here we go
it is the crack in the wall

32. "I'm glad I'm old so I don't have to see what's coming"
Although I'm not nearly that old, I understand.

But take the long view. America has gone through many abysmal periods. This one is very bad, to be sure, but so was the Red Scare following WWI, or the McCarthy period later. So was the draft that sucked so many lives into Vietnam. So was the era of the Civil Rights battles, brutalizing and lethal. The occupation of the Philippines was horrid. The police used to beat up even more people than they do now. And so on. And this is just highlights from the 20th century.

We are, many of us, liberals whose sensibilities were shaped by the anomaly of mid-to-late 20th century liberalism. Some of us mistook it for evolutionary change. But it was an historical anomaly--a break from the horridness, in law and deed, as well as social mores and order, that had defined much prior American history. For a brief period, it was beautiful. An experiment in freedom and emergent equality. It probably couldn't last, especially when its inheritors couldn't be bothered to sustain let alone perpetuate it (yes, that's you, Bill Clinton). The America that many of us loved and say we "want back" turns out to be one that wasn't innate, intuitive, natural or sufficiently popular, and it was broken up and sold off as scrap. And now here we are, faced with the deep-seated and powerful reaction that is restoring America to what it was long before our brief epoch--a Puritan marketplace culture, as venal as it is vengeful, with a long, long imperial gaze.

I know that's not exactly heartening, but unlike Clinton going around today with his shit-eating grin telling us everything will be all right and Democrats will be back in power soon, I'd rather be honest. Everything, alas, will not be all right. Not soon; maybe not in our lifetimes. Understanding where we have been historically can connect us to a long tradition, and when you know the tradition, you can plot your survival.

6. I'm sure the soldiers are jumping for joy
"Hey, there's the guy who lied to us and sent us here and got us killed and made us kill and screwed us on protection and screwed us on planning and screwed us on promises, and insulted us when we asked why - let's go stand around him and shout "hurrah!!"

what a charade

10. Rumsfeld Flies to Northern Iraq for Visit
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld flew into northern Iraq (news - web sites) before dawn on Friday to make a personal appraisal of the training of Iraqi security forces and talk with his commanders.

Rumsfeld began the unannounced trip at an airfield outside the northern city of Mosul. It was the Pentagon (news - web sites) chief's 8th visit to Iraq and came just seven weeks after his Dec. 24 Christmas Eve visit with U.S. troops.

Pentagon spokesman Lawrence Di Rita told reporters traveling with Rumsfeld that the secretary wanted to recognize the success of the Jan. 30 general election in Iraq and "see for himself some of the recent developments in Iraqi security force training."

12. Rummy in Iraq means somthing isn't going right -- they said
yesterday there had to recount over 300 precinct sites of voting boxes ---sounds like Ohio.

Approximately 300 Iraqi Police and Guardsmen were killed in the past 4 weeks in Iraq -- There past the elections now Bush has to hide out from the media because he's face with actual presidential work ..like getting this country back in shape.

As we've seen in the past week, he's having problems with that with complaints even coming from the GOP with his lunatic "cuts"

They are trying to rebuild his "nasty beast" image. I hear the GOP matrons no longer get all a-flutter when he walks into a room. That is a bad sign.
