Keanu Reeves (Atheist) less doubtful about heaven and hell after filming
Edited on Thu Feb-03-05 06:57 PM by truthpusher
I found this little story - I thought it would be fun to see what kind of reaction this generates

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1505&ncid=1505&e=10&u=/afp/20050203/ts_alt_afp/afplifestylehongkongus_050203154557

Keanu less doubtful about heaven and hell after filming of "Constantine"

Thu Feb 3,10:45 AM ET U.S. National - AFP

HONG KONG (AFP) - Hollywood movie star Keanu Reeves said the making of supernatural thriller "Constantine" has not changed his beliefs about religion but admitted he was now less sceptical about heaven and hell.

<snip>

But the movie, an adaptation of the DC-Vertigo comic book, did not change his stance as an atheist.

"I wasn't raised in any special denominations and I haven't taken on any so far," he told reporters. "I used to have doubts (about heaven and hell) and now I doubt less," said the star of "Matrix" and "Speed".

To prepare the role, the 40-year-old screen heart-throb, who recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said he had to visit real-life exorcists to see them in action.

"I had to learn how to hold someone who is possessed with devils," he said.

23. Really. Along with "dog bites man,"
"actor can't get out of character" is one of the biggest non-stories around.

Some airhead actor on a promotional tour for a film he's starring in says that the film had some sort of effect on him and made him somehow LESS of Atheist(!) That makes sense! So, now I too sorta believe, errr, maybe or somethin! Comix RULE!

4. Unfortunately for the fundies
atheists don't have or need leaders or heroes. Atheism is a belief held by the individual and not forced upon others.

These conversion stories are often created in order to make a subtle point, but they really don't mean anything significant.

5. The comic is brilliant
I hope that this film adaptation doesn't suck. While I enjoy many of Keanu's movies (especially "The Replacements"), when I heard that he was starring in this movie, my first thought was "AARRGGGHHH!!!!"

8. Keanu has to say that. he's promoting a film.
Now the film will attract fascist fundies, as well as everyone else.

That nice boy in "Speed" wouldn't answer that particular question at that particular time any other way.

Just my opinion.

you don't agree with is really petty and childish. He's really dumb and everyone knows it? I saw him interviewed on Charlies Rose and he was anything but dumb. Don't like his acting? Fine, don't watch him, but the rest of this crap is ridiculous.

"this crap is ridiculous" Oh really

Lets ask Keanu shall we.

KEANU REEVES'S QUOTATION:
"I'm a meathead man. You've got smart people, and you've got dumb people. I just happen to be dumb."

17. Know what's dumber than that Keanu quotation?
The "journalist" who took a couple of remarks out of context, turning them into a "story."

What's dumber than that? A news service so desperate for content that it reprints this press release with a straight face.

19. and I should care about his spiritual beliefs WHY?
I cannot imagine anything of less interest to me than someone else's relationship with their idea of the Divine. That's a very private matter. I no more want to know their spiritual beliefs than I want to know if they have hair on their ass.

24. I took his comments differently
First, I had no idea he was an atheist, and second I think he's a horrible actor. I also don't think he's "hot"! It was written that he said:

"I wasn't raised in any special denominations and I haven't taken on any so far," he told reporters. "I used to have doubts (about heaven and hell) and now I doubt less,"

He used to have doubts, now less - to me that means no doubts. In addition he states, "I haven't taken on any so far"

allowed to have an opinion? I thought only repugs walked in lock step. Let the man have his beliefs. Religion and philosophy aren't meant to be static. You change throughout your life. If you don't then you're one of 'them'. I like the kid. He does interesting things.

Metta Prayer: May all beings be happy content and fulfilled, May all beings be healed and whole, May all have what they want and need, May all be protected from harm and free from fear, May all beings enjoy inner peace and ease, May all beings be awakened liberated and free, And may there be peace in this world and throughout the entire universe.
