Are we truly POWERLESS to stop the coming horrors?
Are we truly, utterly powerless? Powerless to stop the grinning, cursed monster? Are we after all these hundreds of years, after all those who fought and died for America, and all those who have been murdered, powerless?

It sure looks that way.

1. Sucks don't it?
Obviously the American people don't give a shit though. It's both sad and puzzling. To be fair though, most people don't know what's really going on. It's not like the corporate whore mainstream media is gonna tell them. Most people are too brainwashed by religion and nationalism to recognize the truth anyways. All hail Lord Bush - the rightful heir to Hitler.

6. I think you are wrong and in this way
I think their are a lot of Americans that like all this. They feel we are an empire and should rule the world so it is why they vote for Bush. This is not un-heard of as we know other countries that have voted in rulers that wanted to take over the world. We on this side just are not strong enough. I love this new plan on SS. See Washington Post. If your private account does make money the gov. is going to keep it any how. You are only going to get the amount you would have got under SS. I re-read the thing over and over. See what you think it said. So it is really a scam. Neo-cons are also pushing for a larger army.I think we now spend more than the rest of the world on arms.

Regarding "all those hundreds of years", we are not the same people. I think we have changed, and not necessarily for the better. Some of us are better; some of us are not.

Many people are willing to be walked on.

9. we must talk about the character of the american people.
there has been a sea change -- and like talking about rovian tactics -- we must talk about the american people.
we tend to avoid it -- because it's distasteful.
much like we avoid serious discussion of rove.

it will take serious time and effort if we are to move the country -- but we won't get there with blinders on.

If not, get involved in some Democrat or progressive group. Start shaping thing in the party.
And every one can write letters to the editor and to congress.
We are not completely powerless, just knocked down again, but we must get back up.

26. Jeez, another one who thinks the old tactics still work.
You write your little letters and carry your little signs. When will we all finally understand that this country has suffered a coup? It's the same bastards that took over in '63. Same group, different faces, the new generation brought up to believe as their father's did. We've been coming to this for sometime. You can watch it progress with each new administration. And now we don't even have a say in what the administration will be. They STOLE an election people! They can now put in who they want. Do you think it was only the presidency they rigged? It was Congress too. You can't have a coup unless you run everything. Executive, legislative, and eventually Judical. So write your letters. I'm considering other options.

and what, exactly, IS your other option? Lay out the plan so others can reclaim America. The ONLY organized letter writing campaign I've seen since the takeover was against Sinclair-and that DID work. We don't do enough of anything, and that's the problem. Posting on DU doe NOT count as activism!

34. Like I said, I'm considering other options. It doesn't. . .
mean I have any. That letter writing campaign was aimed at a corporation, not entrenched government. I just don't think all the marching and writing letters works with an individual or individuals that think they are doing God's will. Do you know how many evangelical Christians(?) hold office today? Are you aware of the fact that the bush White House will not allow any thought or idea contrary to what W believes? If he won't even entertain contrary opinion around him, what chance do you think a bunch of marchers and letter writers have?

One option that I am considering is the notion of their so-called Christianity. I'm a Christian and I believe these people don't know Christ or preach his teachings. I'm considering getting active again in the churches and preaching against this false doctrine of theirs. That's one option.

society has fragmented almost to the level of the nuclear family. Almost no one knows their neighbors. You might socialize with a few of your coworkers, but that is the limit of the average American's daily social interaction. Most adults' peer groups are characters in TV dramas.

How the hell are we going to get together and shake off the tyrant when nobody trusts anyone, because they're all strangers?

29. No. We choose to be powerless.
we're a lazy bunch. We don't march against tyranny like those in other countries do. We don't bombard businesses and the media with letters of outrage that help to set the agenda like the RW does. Last year, we actually DID take a moment away from posting vanity threads to write to Sinclair's corporate supporters, and we made a difference. But now it's back to business as usual; whining away while the Activism forum fills itself with tumbleweeds.Whenever someone DOES dare to suggest a worthwhile action around here, some freeper troll or DLCer posts that letter writing campaigns and marches don't do a thing, and everyone sighs with relief because the freeper has successfully given them permission to be lazy and sit on their hands while the misadministration does whatever it wants without a peep of protest from us. Hell, just a year ago when someone from the press posted that when his paper receives four hardcopy letters on an issue, they start giving that issue some attention, he was shouted down by naysayers, who urgently wanted DUers to remain as inactive and disorganized as possible. It worked. Nothing was done to make an issue of anything, and the repugs continue to set the agenda.

WE are our own worst enemies; our laziness, our disorganization, our contentment with kvetching and our determination that "someone else" will deal with it, or it's all the medias fault, or the elections are all rigged, so why bother. So boo hoo hoo We've gonna sit here and feel smug about how right we were that everything is turning to crap in this country-and hey! Let's go to LBN to find something new to complain about!

There are activists, but they are few and far between. Get up, write a letter to your paper, sign a petition, plan a march, or come to grips with the fact that maybe you really do like things the way that they are(and this is a general "you", directed at all of us on this site).

52. I concur
But we're never going to just get the media back. We have to have our own national news media. Then the problem we'll have is a state of confusion. You'll have the real facts with one news group and then you'll have the twisted facts in another.

I wonder if the blind sheeple will actually try to educate themselves to find the truth, or comfort themselves with the twisted lies.

Now, shrub and his menions want to take away the money that should be there for my old age. I feel like crying as I type this because I just don't know what we can do to make these people go away. I keep hoping that something will snap and the country will realize that he and his group are destroying us.

42. Not unless people actually get out and do something....
we can't just post here & talk about it. Talk to people you meet. There is always a spot in conversation where you can slip in some interesting info from "real" news (that which does NOT come from US MSM) Not to mention things you see, i noticed looking at sign on fast food places that inflation is probably started. When they start raising the prices of the bottom menu items we are heading for inflation. Mention that to someone, I usually ask a question? " Hey, did you notice......?"

Because I mention stories that are never covered in our media, my students have started asking where I get my news and so after class I give them some websites to look at. I always call Walmart, the evil walmart. I try not to get too crazy but there are ways that you slip information in that makes people wonder what you know. However, I view that as only a beginning. Something that should be done at all times.

Because I am a poet, I'm working on a series of poems that deal with our history and the current perversion of both our govt and history. I'll start reading them in public soon & when I think they are finished, I'll publish them somewhere.

I also write many letters to my congress critters as well as state legislators. The 2 issues I'm focusing on now with local pol critters are : the proposed gay marriage ban in this state & the future of our votes.

Other people have other talents and should find what they can do to spread the reality based community. Hopefully, we will be able to reach a point where we can make a loud noise with our numbers.

On the other hand, there are many days when I just do not want to talk to anyone and just want to leave this country.

Then the courageous 13 voted against Condi, the Liar!

THEN we had almost all the Dems nix the Torture Guy!

NOW we have them drawing a line in the sand over Social Security that the Repubs are scrambling to recover from!

People turning their backs and shaking up the inauguration, half of Congress booing the SOTUS, conversations today, even in the MSM, about Bush's plans not exactly being honest--and he has yet to go to Europe.

God is with the Truthtellers! The Good Guys are gonna win! We all get discouraged when we hear too much TV.

LOTS of folks are upset with Bush, even the CIA guys and Pentagon types giving Sy Hersh his material.
