These are people who are very influenced by what the preacher says on Sunday. If he (and at the churches they go to, it's always a "he") says God chose George W. Bush for the presidency, then that's the end of discussion for these people. They will support Bush and anything he says and does if the preacher says it was sanctioned by God.

I also know that many of these preachers are frauds who would take a bribe if it was offered to them. If the DNC paid white fundamentalist Christian preachers in swing states to criticize Bush from the pulpit and urge their members to vote accordingly, it just might pay dividends at the polls. If Democrats paid the preachers off to denounce the war in Iraq and Bush Administration policies from the pulpit as contrary to the Will of God, they would cut into that fundamentalist Christian conservative white vote.

A better bet would be to introduce liberal Christians in the same community, and demonstrate the difference between genuine compassion and pulling a con.
