Iraq's Allawi strong contender to stay as PM

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - For a man barely known to Iraqis until the U.S.-led invasion, Iyad Allawi has come a long way. Interim prime minister for the past seven months, the former Baathist exile is now so well recognised that the election posters of his secular alliance show only his eyes.

He has also been tough in keeping his cabinet in check. When false information leaked about the capture of a former Saddam lieutentant, Allawi hammered the table so hard in anger he broke bones in his hand

I knew the report several months ago was bogus and I knew the Iraqi government was behind it.

I wonder how many bogus reports like the percentage of voters the Iraqi government has been putting out, if I had to guess I would say a hell of alot.
