ANOTHER writer PAID to tow Bush line
This one only got 21.5 K, and Howie Kurtz found her no less.

"In 2002, syndicated columnist Maggie Gallagher repeatedly defended President Bush's push for a $300 million initiative encouraging marriage as a way of strengthening families.
...
But Gallagher failed to mention that she had a $21,500 contract with the Department of Health and Human Services to help promote the president's proposal. Her work under the contract, which ran from January through October 2002, included drafting a magazine article for the HHS official overseeing the initiative, writing brochures for the program and conducting a briefing for department officials."

Here's her response:
"I was not paid to promote marriage. I was paid to produce particular research and writing products (articles, brochures, presentations), which I produced. My lifelong experience in marriage research, public education and advocacy is the reason HHS hired me.

But the real truth is that it never occurred to me. On reflection, I think Howard is right. I should have disclosed a government contract when I later wrote about the Bush marriage initiative. I would have, if I had remembered it. My apologies to my readers."

It never "occurred to her"? Right. Why didn't this "occur to her" after Armstrong Williams was discovered?

WHO ELSE?

5. Really unfair. Women do not get as much as men.
I am sure you will see a lot more of this stuff. Bush seems to have his hand in the tax payers money pot. He gives out money just like it is not his. Look into the faith based stuff.

8. Kurtz Breaking This Story Is Like Willie Lohman Guarding A Bank
Wanna bet we could put Mr. Kurtz under the same glass he puts others under and we'd find lots of conflicts in what he does and how he does his job. Last week, this oxygen thief spent an entire hour on the Rathergate crap without once mentioning the real intention of the story (to find out about Duyba's true military record) and not a mention of Armstrong Williams. In fact, Kurtz made passing mention in a promo about Williams, then dismissed it as not being the major media story compared to the CBS story. Whore!!!!

There is a slippery slope here that I think should be brought out before we go witch hunting. That is the difference in being paid for research and other services, that the government does contract out for, and paying people to lie for partisan purposes.

Williams, unlike this lady, was outfront on television and radio, lying on a daily basis...failing to disclose the $250k he got THIS year (no mention if he had received money in the past). Williams was a likely target since this regime and the GOOP is fascinated by having blacks out in front; creating a charade that there is some growing black movement in the GOOP. He was money will spent and will now get some job at a Conservative think tank for his troubles.

The crazy thing is the more these hypocrites and outright crooks are outted, the more "popular" they become by the wingnuts.

14. I think you mean Willie Sutton? The one who was asked "why do you rob
banks?" and he said, "Because that's where the money is."--?

Willie Lohman is the "Death of a Salesman" character.

9. "I would have, if I had remembered it"
Yet another variation on the tried and true "I do not recall." Seems to be a lot of that going around Bushco. Something in the water?
