that soldier that wrote the letter to Bush: am I the only one...
am I the only one that wonders if this person really exists?

I think it was an Army captain, and it sounded pretty bogus to me, though I doubt he would take that kind of risk knowing everyone knows he's capable of making shit up.

Does anyone know if any reporter asked the White House if they could see the actual letter?

1. I do not believe he exists
And nobody will ever let the captain's name be revealed, "for national security reasons".

2. I don't believe he exists either

In fact we yelled at the TV when Bush* said it. "Prove it Bush*, say his name!" Hell, Rove would've arranged a photo op with the guy if it were true. I guess he's trying to cover up how unsupportive the military is toward him and his policies.

Edited for spelling

3. I Didn't Believe A Word Of It
I did not think for one second that any adult male serving in the armed forces of the United States would have written such a sniveling whineing shitball of a letter. I listened to that part and just knew they made it up but it was just about at that time that my wife couldn't stand it anymore (she is soft skinned) and got up and turned the TV to another channel. Being the He-Man I am I could have stood it for another couple of minutes ....

6. I can't fathom how he would pass up the opportunity...
of giving the man's name. I would have said the man's name if I had been honoring him by announcing him to the whole world. Wouldn't you have named him? Unless, of course, the name doesn't exist.

8. Modestly buffs fingernails on shirt front
Yup, I asked about it in real time, right here at DU!

Now, after the spectacle of watching the press hunt down the truth about veterinary medicine prices vis-a-vis prescription drug prices and whether or not Al Gore's grandmother took same, I'm sure the media will be right on top of this non-story, and demand to know the truth about whether this person actually exists.

And the same could be said for the media's dogged pursuit of the truth and nothing but the truth when it came time to vet the veracity of whether Al Gore had visited a natural disaster site with the head of FEMA or one of his assistants.

So I'm as certain that the media will ferret out the real story of Chimpy's letter from the Army captain, as I am that monkeys will soon be flying out of my butt.

I suppose I should at least stand up, so I don't look nearly as skeptical as I feel.

9. good; so I'm not crazy
the next question is, surely some reporter must be wondering the same thing. If he can lie about nukes, he can lie about this captain.

I've noticed that the White House's website hasn't published transcripts of the daily briefings. Before Bush's vacation, transcripts would be up the same day, but since the vacation, no transcripts at all.

Is McLellan still holding the daily briefings?

13. No, you're not the only one
When hubby and I were watching The Chimp last night, one of the many places in his teleprompter reading that I yelled "bullshi*t" at the TV was when he came out with the letter story. Sounds like it was cooked up by Hill & Knowlton (of the Iraqi babies in incubators having their brains bashed in fame). I don't believe the captain or the letter exists. Of course, we'll never know for sure.
