Is there any chance that the Iraqi people will elect someone who
is not friendly to the US? I've been trying to find out who is running for president of Iraq (other than Allawi), but haven't had much success. Are we controling who runs? What are the chances of someone getting elected who would not be a puppet of Bush?

1. Zilch...
It's all rigged. So much for the fire of democracy being spread.

2. Hmmmm ... Bush administration officials organized the election.
With that in mind, I think you can answer your own question.

4. Of course it's rigged - take this "reality check" for example.
It's supposed to be "Democratic" election, right? The winners will go on to write the new Iraqi constitution, right? And then they'll be running their country, isn't that supposed to be the way it is?

OK, think about this: will it, in a MILLION TO ONE SHOT, be ***POSSIBLE*** under ***ANY*** circumstances for this "Democratically elected paraliment" to have the "right" to simply THROW THE U.S. OUT, ALONG WITH HALLIBURTON, WORLDCOM, ET AL AND DECLARE THEY'RE DOING BUSINESS WITH THE FRENCH AND GERMANS????

5. Sure
But I think he'll be paid off with a large briefcase full of cash. He'll then "invite" the US to stay.

And if he gets to be too uncooperative, they'll see to it that he meets the same fate as Diem in Vietnam.

the bush* administration is keeping the candidates who oppose Allawi SECRET!!!
No shit.

The voters will find out on election day!

edited to provide a link. I wouldn't believe this either, but it's true!

CSMonitor

"The identities of many of the candidates haven't been publicly disclosed and are likely to remain secret until after election day, an illustration of the difficulty in mounting an election amid war.

"Not having the candidates' names known is far from ideal for an election, but I think we can all understand the fears over their safety,'' says a foreign election adviser. "Security is a very big issue for all candidates."

7. I dunno if they will control the winner...
But I have a feeling that if it is someone Bush does not like, then they will happen to be assinated or somthing by the terrorists, leaving the Bush's with another reason to stay in Iraq.

9. Such as things are...
...it seems to me that you have to start somewhere. If not where things are now set, then where? how?

Unbridled dissent is just whining and the appearance of impropriety isn't necessarily evidence of impropriety. Where's your better idea?

I noticed you didn't use the word "democracy."

The only honest sentiment in your position, and I'm guessing it was not by design.
