I can't answer the question, "What will it take?" but eventually, liberals will regain power in the U.S., and I think it is moving in that direction as far as grass roots activism is concerned. Whether the Democratic party will be part of that is up to them. They have to decide who they want their base to be. If they decide not to fight for middle class, working class and poor people. they will very likely be left out in the dust. But eventually, liberals will gain power and become a force to be reckoned with in the U.S.

1. Separate from the mainstream Dem party? Never.
The numbers aren't there. It took mainstream, centrists and all to get the kind of numbers we saw in Nov..

2. that had nothing to do with the democratic party
or john kerry. it was a movement against intolerance and neofascism. i think it will continue to gain momentum with or without the democrats.

3. From where? Very close to a record turnout appeared for this election.
Everyone who would vote, with minor exceptions, did vote. I would be very hesitant to cast away the mainstream Dem. party. When you do that you end up with the people who show for a protest. That is a disappointingly small number
