Can Buxh just march in and take control of Iran.....
...without worldwide intervention?

I wonder how the recent agreement between the European Union "Big Three" and Iran is going to factor into Buxh's "liberation" plans.

The treaty opens the spigots, of course, for a healthy flow of Iranian oil into a fuel starved Europe.
Will the EU just shrug their collective shoulders and look elsewhere for an oil rich trading partner?

I fear not.

Tehran, Iran, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Iran said Sunday that a European delegation was to visit the country after the New Year holidays to discuss construction of a "research" nuclear reactor in the Islamic republic

<snip>

"A European delegation will come to Iran after the January holidays to discuss details of this issue," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters during a weekly news briefing.

The visit follows Iran`s agreement with the Europeans in Paris last month to suspend uranium enrichment activities in return for a package of trade, technology and security incentives, including the EU`s assistance in the construction of a light-water power reactor in Iran.

<snip>

The EU is Iran`s biggest trading partner, with oil accounting for over 80 percent of Tehran`s exports to the Union. Iran also sells agricultural products -- mainly pistachios -- as well as textiles and carpets to the EU.
<end>

Also deeply involved is Russia, after a recent 800mil investment for a nuke power plant there: (Also in exchange for oil)

<excerpt>
Simultaneously, the country's first nuclear power plant is under construction in the southern port city of Bushehr with Russian assistance under an $800 million deal. The controversial project is planned to come on stream in early 2006 at the latest, according to comments by Russian Atomic Energy Minister Alexander Rumyantsev on Friday.

Moscow has, so far, resisted U.S. pressure to abandon the project, saying it has the right to push ahead with the completion of the plant, but demanding at the same time that Iran return all spent fuel to Russia. However, no formal agreement on the issue has yet been reached between the two countries.

George W Buxh didn't just want to be president....He wants to be the LAST president.

2. No. Iran is a real country with a real military, unlike Iraq
Bush couldn't take Iraq. He might not even get away with a bombing run.

Remember, Iraq was invaded because it was weak and available. Iran is larger, wealthier, has a greater national identity, and wasn't creamed in a war in 1991.

3. My fear is that fact that the EU and Russia have promised Iran "security"
as part of the deal.

We may not only face Iranian arms if the Euros don't want to give up their claim on Iran exports. (oil)

I'm sure they will first seek UN help.

4. Oh, Iran doesn't need UN help.
Fact is, the US is in no position to invade Iran, even if Iraq suddenly calmed down.

Doesn't mean we won't try it. But my feeling is that there was a reason why Bush invaded the least dangerous country in the so called axis of evil, and that reason is because Iraq was the least dangerous country. Iraq was the palooka. If Bush had wanted a real fight, we would have taken on Iran already.

5. My thoughts were that the EU and Russia will go to bat at the UN
on Iran's behalf. (to protect their own oil interests)

If that doesn't work....WWIII?

13. No, not WWIII. Just the US getting its ass handed to it
the increase of terrorism, further damage to reputation. You know the drill.

7. But he thinks he is invincible. It would not surprise me if
after the election in Iraq, he will turn his troops to Iran. They are on the border after all. His brain is totally out to lunch.

8. AND???
Where exactly are the insurgents going to be after the election, I have a funny feeling that they won't be going to Disneyland!!!!

January 30th is not a magic day, just because they have elections, doesn't mean the insurgents will disappear.

I don't seriously see the US military launching a ground attack on Iran while Iraqi Freedom Fighters are still running around, do you?

10. Sure he can. He can do anything
he wants. NO one will challenge him at all. WHO is there who will step up and demand he be arrested or impeached or even bad mouthed for his murderous intent.

IN fact,I am willing to bet the entire congress, save a few brave so called nutcase liberals, will be behind him all the way, if their past record is considered.

He will shock and awe,bomb and kill with indiscretion and absolutely NO consideration to the Geneva convention at all, which he considers outdated. It will all be done with more and more lies as is his usual.

Iran will fight back, there will be slaughter and chaos and killing and murder, but he will get his seventeen military bases and installations built there and let them all fight it out while Hallivurton makes more billions. Oh, and I forgot, we will be bringing the Iranians democracy and freedom and the troops will be fighting and dying for "our freedoms"

And we will all be encouraged to support the troops, or else be considered treasonous, anti-American, commies .

11. heh might be unwise if they have a nuclear bomb
That is why * hasn't marched into North Korea after all.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.
