Or did they just pull the appropriate puppet strings and let him think that he actually and legitimately won the election?

1. Oh I'm sure he knows
We might consider him nothing but a whacked out asshole chimp, but there is a very dark and dangerous part of GWB that can not be ignored. He knew--and he is still arrogant enough to tell the world that he won fair and square.

2. chimp in charge
To him, cheating is OK, because he's doing god's work.

3. Absolutely not.

As with most loops, he would be out of it.

On the need-to-know rule of thumb, there's not much in the way of deep politics the suit needs to know. So long as he keeps on message.

Also, if he knew his victory was illegitimate, that knowledge could subvert his conviction that he is there by the will of God and the leave of the America people. That could leave him racked with self-doubt. His handlers wouldn't like that.

And wasn't Bush told by a senior advisor on election day that the exit polls indicated he was going to lose, and that he should prepare for defeat?
