Anyone watch 20/20 Bush interview tonight (west coast time)
I thought Barbara did quite a 'kind and gentle' interview with these two. She said Laura was one of the most popular first ladies...hmmm...not with me...

whatever...I can't believe I got through the hour.

1. I didn't watch it
I had my fill of him during the campaign. I still can't believe he actually got re-elected (or re-selected). I actually like Laura Bush. She has bad taste in husbands, but she seems a lovely person besides that.

6. I didn't watch the whole thing but what made me furious...
...was when Barbara Walters told Laura that there are some people in America that that don't care about Iraq (guess that's us) and asked her if when she went to visit the wounded soldiers, if she believed telling the wounded soldiers that she cared about Iraq, if that would console them. Then Laura side-stepped the question and said "But I can tell you people DO care about 9/11"

What the FUCK does 9/11 have to do with invading Iraq!?

Naturally Barbara did shit about correcting her.

8. its Bushspeak
Say 9/11 one hundred times during every interview and you get polls in which a frightening percentage of Americans still believe Saddam was behind 9/11.

22. she lies, like the rest of them
They are not as stupid as they pretend. They know exactly what they are doing when it comes to conflating Iraq with 9/11. It's a deliberate rhetorical strategy, and as polls demonstrate, it works.

24. yes
I made the mistake in 1999-2000 of thinking W and Laura were stupid (as did many other people). They're not. They're just that mean, hate-filled and corrupt.

15. I would say that the people who don't care about Iraq
are the very ones that supported this invasion, and who now want to just "go nuclear" and put an end to it. People like, say, Ann Coulter.

7. best question
Edited on Sat Jan-15-05 02:31 AM by SuffragetteSal
was when Barbara asked Laura if she felt telling the maimed and injured American soldiers that they were fighting for the freedom of Iraq...was that enough? She answered the usual 9-11 speal..I screamed into the television...there were no Iraqis on the 9-11 planes!

And for those of you who like Laura...I guess if that is all you know so far in your life...you might think her a great woman but give it chance...there are so many other great women out there that would make better first ladies and even presidents besides this cowering submissive meek little robot..

Nothing I see about her I would want to emulate.

11. all we know?
What is this, Stepford? Who doesn't know smart, accomplished women these days? I didn't claim she was the best or even a particularly good first lady. I simply said she seems like a nice person. Her approval ratings are well in the 80s. Of the women involved in the 2004 campaign, I liked Elizabeth Edwards the best. She was the smartest of all of them, including the men in the race.

10. It wasn't bad
She asked about his religion, the privatization of Social Security, toured the redone Lincoln bedroom, asked about the girls, laughed when his dog didn't come. He and Laura looked like they just wanted to get through it and they did survive it quite well.

Although Barbara pretended to ask the tough questions, she sure as hell didn't make 'em bawl like babies. Remember Angela Lansbury and Patrick Swazey? Funny, neither of them had ever misled a nation to war yet she tormented them relentlessly on very sensitive issues. Go figure.

21. now that would have been worth seeing
Is she the little black one, or is that Barney? Have you read Mo Rocca's book on First Pets? It looks funny, though I haven't read it myself.

but Miss Beasley is the new Scott terrier puppy. And the rug she peed on was the NEW one in the oval office.

23. it's traumatic isn't it
I found myself in deep physical pain every time I saw Bush for about a month after the election. I truly believed we would be rid of him. I worked so hard for Kerry, only to have Florida go to Bush by 5 points. I also avoid seeing him. I'll only watch what I consider absolutely necessary. Generally I've found I can handle him better if I listen to him on the radio rather than watch a speech on television. That's the only way I can take a State of the Union address, and this year will be worse than ever.

26. Bush on radio is...interesting. I've listened to few of the weekly spots.
Absent that "boyish I broke the law and my family won charm" he has on camera, audio versions are another story.
