Quick question for a cable internet guru, please

If you have cable internet, you get a 'static' IP address. I understand this remains the same unless you switch your computer off or otherwise lose the connection. But what if you move? Are you likely to have the exact same IP address as you did before the move, if you moved within the area? Are cable internet IP addresses allocated to a user? Or should your IP address be different once you get into your new place?

1. Its my understanding you will have the same IP address, it is

related to you and your ISP, not your location.

...and each time my IP changed. I believe cable IP is related to neighborhood routing, but I'm not for certain.

and to my understanding your modem has specific ID number. You will keep that ID number as long as you use that modem. That is how ours was set up. We set ours up and called in the ID to the cable company off from the box. Is that what you are referring to?

5. The ISP has a block of numbers

and yours is one of those. Mine is actually dynamic, but it doesn't change until I've been logged off for something like 7 days. Of course, since I haven't been logged off for more than a couple hours (power outages) since I got it, it has never changed. Depending on where you move to, your IP may or may not change, depends on the ISP.
