Tsunamis and Bush: Evidence of an Amoral Universe Without Justice or Mercy
Just as the tsunamis rendered a final, irreversible verdict on whether thousands of innocent or guilty, good or evil persons lived or died, the fact of Bush in 2004 is evidence that the universe does not care about human being. It needs no justification for its monstrous acts. It will inflict harm and suffering on humans randomly, and there simply is no recourse in some instances.

Four years ago, many Democrats, including myself, had fervent faith in the notion that justice would ultimately be ours for the obvious injustice the Bushists inflicted on American democracy. We believed it was owed to us. But just as there was no justice, no rhyme or reason, in the delivery of death and destruction to the coasts of the Indian Ocean last weekend, we, too, were deprived of justice in the election this year. Of course there is no comparison between the grief tens of thousands are feeling in Asia this morning for their loss and our grief. Their monster has no face. At least ours does.

1. Well, its not evidence of that, but
it is consistent with with a godless universe. After all, death is always final, irrevocable and is visited on good and evil in equal doses, and that is not proof even to those believing in an omnipotent caring God.

2. This argument is a little bit like
the old argument where you take someone out in a natural setting of great beauty point to it and say, "How can you look upon such beauty and not believe in a loving God?" The problem of innocents suffering has been around for thousands of years, and various theologians and clergymen have dealt with it from time to time.

3. the end is nigh, anyway.
there was a story in The Scotsman that indicated the earthquake disrupted the earth's rotation and sent a shock wave around the entire world.

this planet is going to break up and fall into the sun any day now.

see ya!
