Have right-wing, or unaware, family members? Gift suggestions...
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 01:11 PM by Kralizec
I have a lot of people in my family who are stuck in the matrix. So this year I decided that all of my gifts would be intended to inform my family of what's going on. I guess I should have posted earlier, but this is for procrastinators.

Books:
-Confessions of an Economic Hitman, by John Perkins
Book info.
- Lies: And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right, by Al Franken
- Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn
Why Ishmael?
- Affluenza: The All-Consuming Epidemic, by John de Graaf, David Wann, Thomas H. Naylor
Review link
- We the People, by Thom Hartmann

For those who have Sci-fi fans as friends/family:
-The Dune Novels, by Frank Herbert (6 books)
This is a great read, with a lot of philosophy embedded in it. Also gets the reader think about mass human manipulation -- very relevant to the times. Click here for the official website.

DVDs:
- Hijacking Catastrophe: 9/11, Fear & Selling of American Empire
Website.
- Bush Family Fortunes: The Best Democracy Money Can Buy, by Greg Palast

Non-political DVD:
- Waking Life, by Richard Linklater
Website

Those are just some ideas, but I think these gifts will do a lot more good than just buying junk. Hope this helps some!

4. Dune is a great selection...
it also takes heavily of the history of Islam, and is actually a good way to learn the symbolic importance of the figures of caliph and imam without familiar cultural trappings or biases.
