Let's play a game. Who said this...
"Today Christians stand at the head of the nation... I pledge that I never will tie myself to parties who want to destroy Christianity. We want to fill our culture again with the Christian Spirit. We want to burn out all the recent immoral developements in literature, in the theatre, and in the press- in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of liberal excess during the past few years."

It's a good one and if you know the answer you could end a lot of arguments. So DUers who said this?

After ten people have offered up guesses, I'll give you the answer.

2. Hitler.
Not a wild guess, a reasonable guess.

Weird, anyway it was in fact Hitler

So next time Scalia wants to say that Jews are safer in a Christain nation, not an secular one, I offer this quote up as evidence.

6. bush hasn't said anything quite so blatant, has he?
falwell and his ilk certainly have, but I don't think bush has wrapped himself up quite so tightly in Jesus' robes yet, has he?

Not suggesting for a moment that he won't when he feels the time is right.

8. Rush Limbaugh and the others do it for him.
As for Bush, he's said quite enough. He called his attack on Iraq a Crusade. He said something about his job being easier if this country was a dictatorship, as long as he was the dictator. He told some State official (Israel?) that God told him to attack Afghanistan and then God told him to attack Iraq.

It is Conventional Wisdom among the Christo-fascists that Bush is God's chosen vessel.

The list of these statements/sentiments is very long. Bush is indeed very blatant in his aw-shucks-phony-Texan sort of way.

10. I think he said that to Egypt.
I have a vague memory of him being in Egypt at the time, probably speaking to Mubarek.

11. Are you kidding?
He constantly has used the Jesus excuse. 9-11, Both Wars, the election... any tough questions he throws Jesus into it. Remember his favorite philospher?

12. No I'm not kidding.
I haven't heard him say much that could be DIRECTLY compared to this Hitler quote. For examply, I don't believe I've seen him say anything that suggests he thinks the democrats are out to "destroy Christianity".

You bring up some examples, but they're not at all specific. Sorry, but when it comes to comparing bush to Hitler, it had better fit to a T, or to others we'll just look like a bunch of alarmists. We want to do more than simply preach to the choir, don't we?
