Rumsfeld to Sign Condolence Letters
Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is starting to recognize the need to accept some responsibility for what happens to our soldiers when they get shipped out to Iraq. Unlike Bush, who is a madman, Rumsfeld seems to have a sense of guilt.

Guilt. What a concept. Imagine what you could do with it. Foreign policy based on doing the right thing.

I just can't believe the man was so insensitive as to not sign the letters in the first place.

3. CNN ignored Hackworth, I see
From the Stars and Stripes article I read here in Qatar:

Retired Army Col. David Hackworth, an author and frequent critic of the Department of Defense, publicly criticized Rumsfeld in a syndicated column earlier this month for not reviewing each KIA letter personally.

He called the fake signatures “like having it signed by a monkey.”

6. I like Hack but...
he just walks on the top rail of the fence too much.
He needs to get down and dirty more often and tell the horrible truths in stark terms.

5. That's just awful. Not only did he not sign, but the Pentagon LIED
when first asked about it and said he did sign them. Then it was leaked that it was a "signature device" and then they had to fess up.

Does anyone know if other Def Sec's signed theirs? I mean if McNamara signed all of his, Rummy could find the time to do his. It's the least he could do. He still makes time to play squash every week.
