1. The Americans have gasoline...
snip-
Oh don't get me wrong- the governmental people have gasoline (they have special gas stations where there aren't all these annoying people, rubbing their hands with cold and cursing the Americans to the skies)... The Americans have gasoline. The militias get gasoline. It's the people who don't have it. We can sometimes get black-market gasoline but the liter costs around 1250 Iraqi Dinars which is almost $1- compare this to the old price of around 5 cents. It costs almost 50,000 Iraqi Dinars to fill up the generator so that it works for a few hours and then the cost isn't so much the problem as just getting decent gasoline is. So we have to do without electricity most of the day.

Cooking gas has also become a problem. The guy who sells us the gas cylinders isn't coming around because apparently he can't get the used cylinders exchanged for full ones. People are saying that it costs around 10,000 Iraqi dinars to buy one on the street and then, as usual, you risk getting one that might explode in the kitchen or be full of water. We're trying to do more and more of our 'cooking' on the kerosene heater. The faucet water is cold, cold, cold. We can't turn on the water heater because there just isn't enough electricity. We installed a kerosene water heater some time last year but that has also been off because there's a kerosene shortage and we need that for the heaters.

7. The rabid right has to believe she doesn't exist
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 01:16 PM by Robbien
The rabid right went to Iraq to spread democracy not despair.

Riverbend is writing that yesterday was bad, very bad. But yesterday was much better than today. She also writes that one must enjoy the disaster today is because tomorrow will be worse.

And the rabid right skips along merrily saying Iraq is so grateful because our beloved Bush removed Saddam.

8. it's good to question
especially what you read on the internet.

Instead of saying "I hear", the best thing would be to read the blog and make your own judgement.

That's what I do - and I believe "Riverbend" is legit.

11. She is spoiled because she likes hot water and no bombs?
She is spoiled because she likes electricity and running water and available food? She is spoiled because she likes to walk out of her house without male family members guarding her?

Her father is a sadist? You are so familiar with sadists that you can say that of a complete stranger? What has Riverbend ever written that has given the impression her father is a sadist?

33. Like your pals in al Qaeda?
Where exactly in my posts did I say I sympathize with Al Qaeda?

And what exactly is your definition of a terrorist? Someone who shoots a wounded fighter in the head? People who bomb civilians to smithereens as a matter of policy? People who lock US citizens up with no charges and no trial and no chance to talk to an attorney for an indefinite amount of time?

George Bush IS a terrorist and if he's allowed to, will soon be a dictator. And as far as sadistic goes, funny you mention that. Ever heard about him mocking Karla Faye Tucker when she was about to be executed? Ever hear about him blowing up frogs as a child?

Posting nothing but two or three sentences full of right-wing talking points and an occasional "Oh yeah but I don't like Bush" isn't enough to convince me.

Once again, when are you planning on enlisting? Hmmmmmmmmm?

64. Guess what?
Do some research (or active thinking) and you will find out that the US is actively supporting many sadistic dictators AS WE SPEAK. Coincidentally, the US once supported Saddam Hussein, even after he gassed the Kurds (with the weapons the US gave him). Saddam was just one of many horrible dictators who have received/are receiving full US support.
For your information, Osama bin Laden HATED Saddam Hussein. Saddam did not make Iraq a Fundamentalist Islamic country, worked with the "infidels" and brought them to the "holy land". We removed one of Osama's enemies and replaced it with a vacuum in which there is a possibility of a theocratic Islamic nation. Good job, America!

73. If it wasn't for the US
Saddam wouldn't have been there in the first place. Look at the US atrocities in Iraq! Napalm and white phosphorous, killing civilians in "accidental fire", firing upon protesters, torture of innocent detainees, no semblance of order or law, bombing houses and weddings for no reason (oh yeah, to get all those terrorist Iraqi civilians!)...the list goes on and on and on and on.
Dictators usually start wars? Like the war we started with Iraq for no reason whatsoever? Of course, it is very arguable that Bush and his cronies make up the dictatorship of America, so you may be right for once.
"Middle eastern people"??????????????? First of all, have some respect. Second of all, we have terrorists in America, what do you call the KKK? Oklahoma City bombing? Iraq? These are all terrorist actions created by the US of A. Oh yeah, and the Middle East would have a few less dictators if it wasn't for America, so you're wrong, again.

Are the oil lines being targeted? The refineries? Are they not producing their own? Is it not getting into the country?

I've heard and read nothing in the mainstream about this. Well, to be honest, I've heard little in the mainstream about any Iraqi civilian issues. One might be led to believe that the press does not want us sympathizing with them on any level.

60. So you think that every single report
of torture in Guantanamo or Iraq prevented a "terrorist" attack? Torture is used most of the time by lazy sadists, end of story. And the rules of war (and simple human decency, for that matter) are not something to follow when convenient, and throw out when not. If we're torturing prisoners, how are we better than Saddam?

As far as Osama goes, it doesn't matter who taught him his "weird" views. We armed him, trained him, and gave him a damn good reason to be pissed at us. We also created some great recruiting posters for him and al Qaeda.

61. OK
You are hopeless. You would like to be tortured in the name of probably stopping "terrorists". Get a grip! Do you really think we've gotten ANY information on terrorist activities in Iraq through this base torture? Of course not! Even if we did (and we have not), it would be contrary to everything we supposedly (but don't) stand for. Bring freedom to Iraq through torture! Bring peace to the world in the form of napalm! This is inherently wrong, and so are you.
By the way, the terrorists who carry out attacks against Iraqis are hated by the resistance, and have nothing to do with those who are fighting the US Occupation for various goals. The terrorist organizations are NOT the resistance groups.

"but abu graib is a different story I guess because it involves other issue like bad planning. authority given to random people who then totally abuse it, etc."
Newsflash: Torture was made a policy by Bush and the criminals in his administration. This is happening all over in many US military prisons and military bases. Yeah, authority given to random people who abuse it...like Bush and his cronies?

"Did the US teach them to hate each other???"
Perhaps the US isn't doing anything to try and stop the civil war which is will probably unfold in Iraq. Perhaps the invasion itself, and the inept and criminal occupation afterwords, sparked the situation that innocent Iraqis now face. The lawlessness and insanity that is happening is the direct result of the US.

"Like people who say "well the US trained Osama in Afghanistan" did we teach him his weird religious views???"
Oh, please. We give him CIA backing and training and now you're saying he was able to carry out his attacks because of his "weird religious views"???? Guess what? A LOT of people have weird religious views, but they aren't able to carry out horrible attacks unless WE give them the means to do so.
In conclusion: You're wrong.

67. You were safer down in I/P
where your rampant stupidity was at least confined to one topic.

59. Put your ass where your mouth is and get over to Iraq and tell us
first hand how well things are going over there.....or just join the Army, I hear they're providing all expenses paid trips to Iraq.

70. you can alert with the ALERT button
but, you cannot call a poster a freeper. that's the rule.

(apparently though you can call them a poop-flinging monkey with the intellectual depth of a snail trail without a problem....

;-)

71. Seems the ALERT button does not work on the poop-flinging monkey
in this thread. Wonder how many ALERTS have been made on Mr half a lester and all the while the poop keeps getting flung by the snail trail intellectual.
