Some pictures from the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo
Oprah and Tom Cruise as hosts

Joss Stone

Diana Krall

Good to see Americans appear under 'uncontroversial' circumstances.

1. Who won the prize this year?
Or do we know yet?

2. Are you talking about Oprah and Tom?
Because Joss Stone is British (sounds like Aretha tho) and Diana Krall is Canadian. Regardless, I didn't realize the ceremonies were so "pop"; I thought it was more poncey...

3. Yeah
I knew Joss was European, but must admit thinking Krall was an American ;-) But Cyndi Laupier, Patti Labelle and several other took part as well.
The ceremony is very up tight, but there's a concert in the evening where things loosen up. We're a small country, so this is usually big news here.
Jimmy Carter charmed the hell out of us a couple of years ago, btw.

The winner this year was unknown to most, the Kenyan Wangari Maathai, doing mostly environmental work in Kenya, like tree planting, and working to fight AIDS.
This has created a movement that has meant a lot to Kenyans, and she recieved the prize for this work.
A bit of a compromise canditdate, you might say.

But not without controversies; she's hinting that AIDS did not appear 'naturally', but was some kind of slip up from a laboratory.

Here's Oprah, Tom and Wangari Maathai.
