In Iraq, 'Lawrence' is a must read

<snip>"The enemy is broken,'' Marine Lt. Gen. John Sattler, commander of US forces in Fallujah, said Nov. 14. "We have liberated the city of Fallujah." Since then, about 20 US soldiers have died there.

1. Another good quote from the article. Sound familiar?
>>>"Our armies do not come into your cities and lands as conquerors or enemies, but as liberators,'' British Lt. Gen. Stanley Maude said shortly after Baghdad was occupied by the British in 1917, replacing longtime Ottoman Turkish rule. "But you, people of Baghdad ... are not to understand that it is the wish of the British Government to impose upon you alien institutions. It is the hope of the British Government that ... once again the people of Baghdad shall flourish, enjoying their wealth and substance under institutions which are in consonance with their sacred laws."<<<

2. Now it's more attacks before the election.
I keep thinking they'll run out of excuses but they don't. First we heard things would get better after the statue fell, then after the deaths of the sons, then after the capture of Saddam, then after the handover to Allawi, then after our election, then after we take Fallujah. Now things will get better after their elections. What's next? After Groundhog Day?
