so . . . are we ready for the Creation Museum?
found this on Metafilter . . .

http://www.answersingenesis.org/museum/about.asp

The Creation Museum will proclaim to the world that the Bible is the supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice and in every area it touches on. This ‘walk through history’ museum will be a wonderful alternative to the evolutionary natural history museums that are turning countless minds against the gospel of Christ and the authority of the Scripture.

LOCATION: The Creation Museum is currently under construction in Petersburg, Kentucky, USA, just 4 miles west of the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati International Airport.

4. It's not the only one
Was just reading about Kent Hovind's Creation Amusement park in Florida. It's got a bunch of lawsuits arrayed against it due to Kent refusing to file for a license and such.

Be prepared to see more and more Creation based amusements. The fundies are getting increasingly into marketting.

34. The attacks on natural history museums
I heard a religious radio station bragging about putting creationism into public schools. They said their next target is to get public natural history museums to tell the truth about the age of their artifacts (which can't be over 6000 years old).

Also check out Katherine Yurica's Report on dominionism concerning building religious parallels to all public institutions and work at starving and destroying the public ones.

6. Saw Something About This....
On Penn & Teller's television show....

It is true.

Apparently, the creator of the museum wasn't really interested in the "science..." In his interview, he claimed society is going downhill, and that is why his museum is needed.

It is scary....

9. Geez, Fundies piss me off. This "museum" obviously is a multimillion
dollar project. I thought, according to Jesus, religious folks are supposed to renounce material wealth and give to the poor. Lots of poor people could be well cared for with this money by some sort of charitable foundation. That's the kind of religious work I can get behind. This just smacks of some folks huge egos and their attempt to buy their way into their image of heaven. "Oh, build a fancy schmancy museum to prove the Bible is literally correct, and God will reward you with material gain in this life and keep a special place for you in heaven." Ridiculous fairy tale. Disgusting.

17. From my very basic Bible knowledge, I always was under the impression
that Jesus was pretty much an anti-materialism kind of guy and preached that way. I don't know a chapter and verse quotation to back that suppostion up and I'm not motivated to search the New Testament to find it out right now (wish I had one of those fancy Bible software programs to do it for me). But it does seem to me that the emphasis in the New Testament is to focus on the spiritual and not the material.

20. Here are a few quotes attributed to Jesus about wealth
19“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal,
20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
24“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. (Matt. 6:19-21, 24)

23And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” (Matt. 19:23-24; Luke 18:24-25)

34And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to them, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
35For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.
36For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? (Mark 8:34-36)

24“But woe to you that are rich, for you have received your consolation.
25“Woe to you that are full now, for you shall hunger. “Woe to you that laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. (Luke 6:24-25)

20But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’
21So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:20-21)

33So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:33)

10. The museum of supernatural history
It seems sad that people can't reconcile the perfectly understandable desire for spiritual meaning with anything but literalist interpretations of the Bible. The trouble with that, is that you have to dumb yourself down and ignore the evidence of your eyes (and others as well). It seems best to me to just accept that God is bigger than one book.

11. It seems incredible to me that these people start with blind acceptance
of some ancient text first written down (by men) in ancient times when man could barely forge metal. If God did desire to communicate the origin of the universe to man, I think he'd wait until man was sophisticated and learned enough to be able to at least begin to understand it. People thousands of years ago just wouldn't have a clue about geology, chemistry, biology, etc. Actually, I feel any Fundie that has a problem with any non-literal interpretation of the Bible has a pretty weak faith to begin with. If their faith can be shaken by simply taking the book of Genesis as a symbolic communication from God instead of literal, they didn't have much faith to begin with.

I'd like to see these fundies do one decent thing without using God, Jesus, the Bible or any other religious reference as motivation. Then I might suspect them of being truly Christian.

The Left Behind books, the Passion movie, the Passion merchandise, all the Bush is a man of God books, all the prophecy books, now these creation theme parks? They are commercializing Jesus. Jesus is now a brand and they are marketing a brand.

It's sickening.

motivating the people behind it. It's disgusting when people use Jesus to make big bucks. You see it everyday on the Fundie channels on TV. Getting rich off Jesus must create a special place in Hell for those who are so inclined.

26. A project serving the "ye of little faith" crowd
If these people's faith is so weak that they need a $25 million museum to "prove" that the Bible is literal truth, a cynical man might suggest that the Bible is indeed not literal truth.

Call me cynical.

Let's look at the first allegory in the Bible: Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. God put Adam in the Garden, then knocked him over the head and made Eve from one of Adam's ribs, and told them that so long as they didn't eat the fruit of this one certain tree they could live there. A nice, easy to understand tale, but embellished. There was no tree and there was no fruit. Note that the Bible calls it "the tree of knowledge of good and evil." What the Bible is actually saying is that Adam and Eve figured out how to fuck up. It could have been anything--butt sex, magic mushrooms, anything. Anyway, they found something or did something that pissed God off and he threw their asses out of the Garden of Eden for it.
