1. what's so sad about it? Much of it is dead on accurate.

sitting back and trying to be friendly, making peace, or understanding their "faith" as part of an effort to win them back - that is fruitless, self-defeating and a waste of time.

It is a cultural war, and we are losing as badly as the US is in Iraq. (except we know it, and the US military refuses to admit something painfully obvious)

2. Yes there's a lot of truth to this

and of course he's using proposed murder to shock us, a rhetorical device used by Jonathan Swift (A Modest Proposal). I certainly don't take that literally.
