NPR Just Had Conservative Payback Wants List
Edited on Wed Nov-10-04 09:04 AM by MaryH
1. Appointed, conservative judges - don't like those elective Activist Judges.

2. Supreme Court Justices like Scalia and Thomas

3. Privatization of Social Security Accounts

4. Gay Rights Amendment

5. Drilling in Alaska

6. Lower Taxes

7. Support schools with school vouchers - probably to support Evangelical schools

8. And everyone will wear blue polyesther suits and have big hair.

Not necessarily in that order. And there were others but I can't remember any more. But it is the whole Bush agenda. The Evangelicals went out to vote bigtime and they want to be paid back.

5. It all stems from that Moses wandering in the Wilderness for 40 years
;-)

6. Jesus was probably a really nice guy-eccentric but
nice.

The "Evangelical Church" is all about power. And Control. And how, By God, we will all do what we are supposed to do. - Whatever that is.

17. Actually, he didn't hate taxes. He felt we needed to pay them AND
be compassionate.

8. They were being pretty bipartisan this morning
+They were talking about Ashcroft's resignation and said he might go down in history as the worst in his office of all time.

9. They hope to continue to exist.
NPR is mostly funded through appropriations. Don't toe the line - they're gone.

14. Huh?
NPR has gotten practically zero federal funding for a long time now. Their biggest source of funds these days, outside of listener contributions, is corporate underwriting. This is why they give scant coverage to, say, outsourcing because one of the corporate underwriters is Keene -- a big-time outsourcing firm.

11. I heard that...
The whole time I'm reading it I was going "OMFG, No!" ... except for the bit about working to curb our dependence on foreign oil. That, I can support, depending on how it's acheived. But the rest of it!?

15. I heard that. They want to "curb our dependence on oil"
by drilling in ANWR, of course. They'll never DREAM of asking Americans to give back their SUV writeoff (which actualy encourages people to buy >6000 pound vehicles), or to impose a gas-guzzler tax on trucks that already apply to cars.

16. Is that what the Alaska bit was about?
I wasn't listening closely to that part and didn't understand what they meant about ANWR.

Do they realize that in the long run, we will still have to solve this problem, regardless of whether we drill in ANWR? Do they know how long it would take for us to get into ANWR, and how little time we would actually be able to use that oil for? I mean, I know very little about it, and even I know that those are issues that need to be addressed... Ugh.

12. "I will NOT Privatize Social Security."
Bush said that over and over and over in his speeches during the last weeks of his campaign. Will the sheeple remember? Fucking liar.

19. Hopefully, Moveon will be all over this
I'm on a TV news hiatus, but I haven't seen any mention of outcry, shock or even mild surprise over the press conference Bush held last Thursday (I believe) where he said he was going to go right to work at pushing through a long, expensive Social Security privatization agenda.

FLIP FLOP.

13. Why do they hate America so much?
They don't want to pay their share in the form of taxes to their country to finance these wars they love so much. And for the religious right... isn't there something in the Bible about giving to Caesar what is Caesar's? Ahh, selective interpretation... the joy of being a modern-day American Christian.

They want judges who will interpret the Constitution of our proudly secular nation in the view of ONE religion for decades.

They want to CHANGE our Constitution to regress and discriminate against an entire group of people - even though they claim to want to leave decisions up to the states.

They want to irreversibly destroy a natural, pristine treasure in America and endanger countless forms of wildlife for a 6 month - 2 year supply of oil.

These people HATE AMERICA, IT'S LAND AND EVERYTHING IT STANDS FOR.

This cannot be said enough.
