The ideal Democratic candidate steps to the podium........
and the first words he says:

"Let us pray." The TV cameras catches him as his eyes are closed and his lips are moving in what appears to be quiet prayer with the Lord.

Then he thanks everyone for coming to the event and advises everyone to be seated. As the light applause goes silent, he says, "Blessed are the peacemakers for theirs is the kingdom of God".

Then he explains that the Democratic Party is the party of peace - not war. He aligns himself and the Party with Jesus Christ, the big-cheese Prince of Peace of all Christians.

Then he explains that the Democratic Party has been the Party that has followed the teachings of Jesus Christ. "Beware of false prophets!", he pleads in loud incantation. The crowd cheers wildly.

"When the Republicans last controlled this nation at the extent they do now, people were selling apples and pencils on the street corners trying to make enough money to feed their families for one day at a time. Herbert Hoover was in office and he begged us to have patience because better time were just around the corner. 'Times would be better in a year or two' he said. And Harry Hopkins, the New Dealer said, 'But people don't eat every year or two, they eat every day'. "It was immoral then and it is immoral now!", he says.

The crowd is smiling because he makes them feel better about themselves. He continues...

"Then the great Democrat, FDR, came along and told people they had nothing to fear but fear itself. He told America that the Democratic Party was the Party of the people then and it is still the Party of the people! The people cheered. It is the Democratic Party that is the Party of compassion and charity. It is the liberals of this great Party that has fed our nation when it has been hungry. It is the liberals of this great nation that gave hope when there was nothing but Republican despair! More cheers.

It is our Party that has upheld the morals of this country throughout the last century and we will continue to do so in this century also. Do not despair. You have a home in the Democratic Party. We will defend our country from the fascists that would steal us blind. We will fight for the rights of the working people of this country. We will fight those hypocrites that are so quick to judge others. The true enemies of this country are within as well as without. And we will defeat them both. Be brave, Democrats! Do not lose faith! Our time is coming! "

1. Excellent, kentuck
I have been struggling with the "Christianity" thing. Your post captures my feelings. This crowd is not Christian. If a candidate said what your candidate said, they would call him or her a communist. They have no concept of true Christianity. Perhaps the answer is to run a real Christian (ie Jimmy Carter). Of course, the candidate would have to believe in the separation of church and state.

2. Exactly
Not much more needs to be said, perhaps a bit of overkill with the praying, but the quicker we are about NOT being the anti-religion party the better.

3. We need to recapture the "morals and values" issue....
And it would not be that hard to do. It has been our history. All we have to do is remind people.

4. That is an intriguing way to wrest away moral issues.
I would prefer a return to new Enlightenment principles, but your way would probably sell much better to modern America.
