Poll question: What are you ??
What are you ... you get two choices ... that's it !!

Look folks, everybody's bummed ... we fell off a pretty high cliff ... we believed but we lost ...

We have some real problems in our party ... frankly, i don't think most people, and i certainly don't mean DU'ers, are willing to fight for their beliefs ... but the only way we're ever going to get anywhere is to begin building a real grassroots network ... there should be monthly meetings of democrats in every town in the country ... it should have a "social" element to "keep it fun" ... but it also should be about activities like viewing F9/11 or a letter writing campaign against a court nominee or planning an anti-war demonstration or planning a GOTV effort for 2006 or whatever ...

every democrat in your town should have regular contact with the party ... at a minimum, start an email newsletter ... or better yet, try calling people or going door-to-door to tell them what you're trying to do and what they can do to help ... that's what it means to be part of a party ... and get everyone's email address while you're at it ...

frankly, at least where i live, the party almost doesn't exist ... i mean they really don't do anything at all as far as organizing goes ...

there's plenty of work to be done starting right NOW ... remember, the further a pendulum swings in one direction, the greater its propensity is to return ...

So, what are you, a counter-puncher or a stepped on puppy dog ???

1. If I don't get off my ass and do it
then I deserve the worst. It's time for me to start fighting back. I sat by during the last election making excuses for not volunteering. This time I'm gonna do as much as I can to make a difference.

2. Yes, we have to get together now!
I've used this site to find a lot of local people in my area http://www.meetup.com/ I've been a part of a dem group locally even though I'm a Green ;) I think that we need to get our local members together, and get ready! It is never too early to start our fight!

4. unity on the left
perhaps now the Nader haters can put 2000 behind us ...

this is not about election politics ... at least not for now ... this is about building a massive coalition on the left ... it includes all of our misguided but well meaning centrists (lighten up, just kidding !!) and all of us far left wackos ...

i don't care if you're a Green, a Socialist or a recovering republican ... the point is that we need really big numbers ... imagine a day that we can poor hundreds of thousands of people into the streets in every city in the country ... a network like that could not be ignored for long ...

we keep looking for the politicians to lead us ... perhaps if we took a bit more initiative, they would feel empowered to fight for us a little harder ... the point of all this is, that we need unity ... what we don't need is any more sniping between democrats and greens ... we may not see everything the same way, but we sure both see the republicans for what they are ...

3. And my punch will go right to the lower middle-class bigots
I will laugh as they lose jobs and I will laugh as their children go off to Iraq or Iran. I will never fight for them again, only against them.

6. Right On!
I have no sympathy for any bush voter either. They were weak and allowed bush's fear-mongering to work. They deserve whatever they get.

9. tell your children to fight!

I am of the draft age, and my boyfriend is too...I've read that women will be drafted just as men, and college won't be an excuse to stay (which we are both in)...all of our friends are in this group, there is no way in hell they could even drag us over there, if they started up the draft and nobody complied, that would be just the beginning. We CAN'T give in to anything! We know that this 'war' is wrong, and we won't support it or anyone that supports it. I have so many friends and family in Iraq right now and not a single one of them supports that stupid war or bush!!!!

8. Sadly, I'm a stepped on puppy dog at this point.
But I am aspiring to be a counter-puncher again. Give me some time.... Just a couple days. I'm in that post-election slump. I know I have to get up and fight but right now I'm too tired. I think a lot of people are feeling that way... but the goal now is to let the sadness pass through us, not denying it or belittling it, just experiencing it fully and then taking that loss and turning it into something worthwhile. And I think the lasting lessons of this election will still be that we can change things... from Dean's internet revolution to the GOTV efforts, we now know that politics is in all our hands.

I am still depressed and have been crying all day but I am ready to fight. Right Now.

11. Stepped on puppy dog.
Kerry ran a great race. We had the money to fight the R's toe to toe, and we did. We won all 3 debates. We won on this issues and we tied on image. We ran a great candidate against the worst President in modern U.S. history ... and we still lost. There's nothing wrong with the Democratic Party. There's something very wrong with America.

Time to go ...

-Laelth
