The Queen is Green
Queen intervenes in heated debate
From correspondents in London
31oct04
THE Queen has reportedly made a rare tiptoe into the world of politics by warning Prime Minister Tony Blair of her grave concerns over US policy towards global warming.

Britain's Observer newspaper today said the Queen was understood to have asked Mr Blair's office to lobby the US after observing the alarming impact of Britain's changing weather on her estates at Balmoral Castle, in Scotland, and Sandringham House, in east England.

"There has been dialogue between Downing Street and Buckingham Palace on all issues relating to climate change including the US position and the latest science," said one of Britain's leading expert's on climate change, who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity.

"She is very keen to get involved," he said of the Queen.

5. Yes she is.
She actually has quite progressive political beliefs, which she cannot express due to her role, but based on what I have heard, she would do a much better job than Blair is doing if she had the governmental power he does:).

She also has done more service from WW2 than * ever had in vietnam. She was in the middle of things in those days volunteering for the war effort. She is also an expert driver from those days, a fact that has saved her life on more than one occasion. She certainly has led an interesting life, far from the image that the media projects of her.

Behind closed doors of Buckingham Palace, I think that the Queen will be cheering Kerry on!

6. Brenda hated Thatcher.
That means she has to be alright.

I don't know how much publicity it got in the US, but 20 years ago there was something of a constitutional crisis because Brenda thought Thatcher was bossing her about. Thatch went apeshit. Brenda was extremely dignified about the whole thing. And Maggie stopped.

She's a class act, and I say that as a republican (in the British sense!).

7. Of course, she only speaks up after she realizes that it's affecting
HER private property at Balmoral and Sandringham.

That's the problem with the aristocratic and extremely wealthy. Until the outside world starts to creep into their safe, secure little bubbles, they could give a damn about rest of the planet.

10. Let's be honest, that's pretty much human nature, what makes someone
wake up often is a problem affecting "their" little world. The people who then get informed and involved for more than just their little world are the ones want!

8. God Save the Queen!
I'm proud to be British. Actually the attitude of the Queen is what makes me a monarchist, she makes her position as UK head of state still tenable in a democracy. She is incredibly well informed, she has really well balanced political beliefs and she looks great in a crown.

9. I would think she would step down to let her aging Charles take the throne
But then, it could be he has sullied himself and she will do no such thing.

Oh well, I hope Bush listens and goes green too but the odds are much against that to happen any time soon....especially he is about to lose his arse to the Flaming Lib Kerry who is much more of a MAN than he.

11. You know if Bush admits he's had an epiphany and
he wants to right the wrongs that he has done, he will be popped by his own crowd. He knows it too. He knows he can't wiggle out of the contract.
