WH, Poppy say all 5 in Knight Ridder story are wrong on Project PULL
Here's the article from a few days back, which gives credence to the theory that George was fulfilling community service at PULL-

and the response-

snip>
The White House says all five people quoted in the article are wrong.

"The President served at Project PULL because he wanted to," said spokesman Trent Duffy.

Bush 41 admitted to us through a spokesman that, yes, he had asked White, who died in 1988, to take on his then-26-year-old son. But Poppy denied suggestions that his boy was sentenced to do community service.

"The allegations that my asking John White to 'take in' the President was judge-mandated are totally untrue," Bush the Elder said. "John White was one of the President's biggest fans - he often talked about their close relationship."

1. Poppy has made good and sure there is no paper trail
related to Project P.U.L.L. That makes it easy to call people liars.

2. "judge-mandated" -- funny choice of words.
If a judge gave you a choice between community service and jail time, and you chose community service, would you call that "judge-mandated"?

Or say you're charged with a crime, and before it goes to trial the prosecutors office cuts you a deal. You definitely wouldn't call that judge-mandated because there was no judge involved. The prosecutor drops the charges, takes it out of court, and that's that.

I say HW's language "judge-mandated" pretty much says everythign you need to know. Bush was doing community service in order to avoid jail time and a criminal record. It was most likely a deal with the prosecutor's office.

7. Bet there's someone, somewhere...
... that knows his old driver's license number.... The prosecutor may drop the charges, but the arrest record lingers on.

8. Yup...people should ask him if it was "judge-suggested"
or "judge-talked-about," or "judge-referred," or "judge-hint-hinted," or etc. etc.

These are some slippery eels, and their words have to be looked at CLOSELY.

11. That's exactly what stood out to me
I also noted that he didn't bother trying to dispute the FIVE wits like the WH did. He admitted to *precisely* as much as they knew for sure.

4. Sad a 26 year old needs his daddy to "fix" things for him.
Irregardless of why Dimson ended up in the Project PULL program, the fact that dad had to intercede in his son's life shows a remarkable level of immaturity for the boy-king.

And yes, I do think it was mandated service....Bush has never shown inclination before or after to engage in community service....it's just not in his character.

5. A white man in his twenties volunteering for a black non-profit?
White men in their twenties hardly EVER volunteer for ANYTHING, and rarely if ever volunteer for a minority organization.

If all the young men sitting around in bars and strip clubs decided to volunteer to make the world a better place, we might solve every social problem in the country.

6. Why would Poppy have his 26yo son at PULL duty instead of his TANG duty?
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 10:09 AM by blm
We were at war at the time, and it certainly seems odd that George Bush would have his son at a youth program instead of showing up for his OBLIGATION to Guard Duty.

Does GHWBush have an answer to THAT question?

Did he not think that Vietnam was a serious commitment by the US?

10. Dude, fighter pilots make excellent community volunteers!
:spank:

What did that cost the gubmint, a million bucks or more to train him on a plane that wasn't being used in the then-current conflict? Just so he could be a community volunteer?

Makes sense in Bush-Bizarro World!
