has anyone considered that laura bush
was and is a "battered" wife? she has endured years of georges drinking and drug abuse . how many days and nights did she fear him coming home? how did she explain to her daughters that their dad wasn`t home or didn`t feel well or the business deal fell thru. when did she realize that his mother then karen were the most important women in his life instead of her? when did she realize his sole goal in life was to show his dad he was better than him? is she just a naive girl from texas who thought that george was her hero only to find out she is trapped in his nightmares and now she`s resigned to her fate? i think she is.

2. She must be heavily medicated - how else could she cope?
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 12:20 PM by TwentyFive
I just hear it in her voice. She talks kind of slowly, and is so divorced from reality....like her convention speech, "If you and I were to meet in the grocery store, and you asked my about my husband George..." OHHHHH PLEASE!!!

Can you see THK saying this?

3. Who knows?
Maybe she was the abusive one and drove him to drink. It's the more common pattern in some countries, like Russia. I think they are both pretty hardcore addicts, and I'm not talking out of my ass.

10. I know someone who taught school with her and
she says she was "a hoot", Lots of fun.

It is very sad what she has had to become, I think.

18. Drove him to drink?
Short bus. Says it all.

We really really need a pulling hair out of our heads smiley for some of the more ridiculous posts made.

4. I can certainly accept the battered wife thing.
I don't know if George W. physically struck her, but you can be sure he was verbally abusive. He's certainly that way now with everyone else, all the passive aggressive nicknaming, demanding to be called Mr. President, sneering at educated people, etc. There's little reason to think that he treated Laura any differently. He may not be as bad now as he was before, assuming he is indeed remained sober, but I bet he was a bastard in his younger days.

12. I have another friend, who was in the local garden club with her,
and she is NOT a bitch.

My friend, who has the same visceral negative reaction to Dubya that I do, really likes Laura and says she is very nice and fun, too.

Laura ain't the problem here.

6. I think so. But I have lots of questions.
She married him after only knowing him for three months. How well could she have known him?
Maybe he was fun to party with, but settling down to become a family man? Where was her head? Was she an alcoholic's enabler? Did she cover for him all the time? So many people divorce when one dries out because the "fun" is gone. What made her stick with him? Was it his daddy's money? Was she afraid to leave? If he beat her as a drunk, does he still? He seems to be a very angry man.

13. Good Lord, No!
But if she married a guy with charm and who also had some money, would she be the first? Or the worst?

Are we gonna say the same thing about Kerry?

I didn't think so.

9. When they were on Dr Phil show
I waited for him to ask, How did you deal with george's addiction, guess it was one of those question he was not allowed to ask! I have often thought about how she dealt with it also, and yes could be an abused spouse, but I feel it was verbal instead of physical.

11. Laura has OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
In other words, she's a neat freak. Maybe she compensates for it all by taking absolute control of her immediate surroundings. She's a compulsive closet/cupboard cleaner, shelves her books according to the Dewey Decimal System, and even the Twins say she has a fit if anyone leaves footprints on the carpets to disrupt the vacuum lines.

15. Ha. I think that would be BECAUSE of living with W.
He was always out of control, so at least she could control her immediate surroundings.

19. She's the 'Enabler-In-Chief' -- Smirk's Narcissistic Supply
The reason you see daughters with the neurotic behavior they've shown is because the Cokehead Narcissist, along with his Enabler, has created a 'home' where it's all about him. That's both their repression and their model.

It's a sick family.
