New Republican Fear Generator: Our Schools Under Attack
I was just reading a CNN article about how they found diagrams for schools in Iraq, and no doubt Bushco will be using this to generate fear amongst us, however in the middle of the article I noticed something interesting:

"The Homeland Security official said the material was associated with a specific individual in Iraq, and it could not be established that this man had any ties to terrorism. He did have a connection to civic groups doing planning for schools in Iraq, the official said."

In all liklihood this is a RED HERRING and Bushco is clearly grasping at straws.

4. It's just the LAST thing we need.
We're going to have parents clamoring for armed guards at all of our schools. Now, how many people really want these Barney One Bullets running around in your child's school? Honestly, we spend more time cleaning up these idiots' messes - they improperly search, they get WAY too aggressive with kids, they say inappropriate things, and on and on.

5. Just like the "imminent threat" warnings from August.
This is manufactured to dial up the fear and give Bush some talking point to repeat over and over tonight.

7. poll numbers down.. terror alerts up
According to reports that ran yesterday the disks came from an "Iraqi insurgent captured in Baghdad last summer had allegedly downloaded floor plans of elementary and high schools in Florida, Oregon, Georgia, New Jersey, Michigan and California."

A CNN report from late this morning says that Department of Homeland Security officials say "the material was associated with a person in Iraq, and it could not be established that this person had any ties to terrorism. He did have a connection to civic groups doing planning for schools in Iraq."

Hmmm.... ya think the guy with the disks migh have involved in building all those schools in Iraq we heard about earlier? Not exactly Al Queda's Hard Drive, huh?

15. Hmm, Florida, Oregon, Georgia, Michigan and California
What incredible odds that so many of the the states mentioned just happen to be battleground states. No school plans from Texas or Wyoming, huh?

8. More Fascist Fearmongering!
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 04:54 PM by TahitiNut
Al Qaeda has NEVER targeted children. (Smirk even used children of color as human shields on 9/11.) This is pure propaganda.

To quote from the story ...
The Homeland Security official said the material was associated with a specific individual in Iraq, and it could not be established that this man had any ties to terrorism. He did have a connection to civic groups doing planning for schools in Iraq, the official said.

This adminstration should be in prison for the rest of their miserable lives!

10. Shocking
These guys will stop at nothing to stay in power. Frightening parents about the safety of their children on flimsy evidence such as this (a guy involved in building schools has maps of schools!) is just plain disgusting. How do these people sleep at night?

11. What if the threats are credible?
While the timing of this report is suspect, I am afraid for children in our schools. After watching the coverage of what happened in Russia I am actually glad to see the government looking out for potential attacks.

14. its a crock
guy that plans the construction of schools checks out existing plans for existing schools

dont buy the hype

the kids are in much greater danger of being hit by a made-in-the-usa bullet from one of their ridilin-addled classmates than to be targeted by al-qeada

the "threat" on a local news channel in Raleigh. I emailed them for a retraction. I don't intend to put up with this crap anymore.

17. All the school info was available on the internet
and apparently the guy who had it had an interest in school planning. But the story on CBS News tonight made it sounded like there was a credible threat to the schools.
