19. Yup... Kucinich is the kinda guy that might actually...

... get that 50% of people who usually don't vote at all out to the polls. This is the thing that the DLC completely misses. In saying that the Dems need to "expand their base of support" by moving to the right, they ignore the fact that the largest untapped voter base are all the people that usually feel completely left out of the process... the poorest people in the country and so-called "minorities". Kucinich, Sharpton, Moseley Braun.. and maybe Dean or Edwards seem to me to be the only ones that have a shot at reaching out to those voters.

Kucinich will lock in my support that day I'm convinced that he's mastered public speaking/debates (no more of that ranting thing)...

43. Hey, I've been lurking for 2 weeks
and see that the majority here are Deanies. I'm totally inspired by him!

And I really don't want to offend you guys.

But just b/c someone is against a baseless war doesn't mean they're liberal, right? Dean is pro-death penalty and anti-gun control. I will totally support him and get out the vote for him if he gets the nomination--ANYONE is better than Bush--but meanwhile I'm working for Kerry, who seems to be as liberal as I am...

45. I'm a Dean Supporter
Not because I think he's liberal; he's not. I'm fascinated by his resiliency and feel that he's forthright. There are so may great candidates, like Kerry, Zuchinich, and of course, if Clark ever decides to get into the fray, he is going to change some minds. I'll be voting for the democrat who gets the nomination, no problem.

42. Who says not sure?
I always wonder about who picks not sure in these polls and what they're thinking. Surely they must have some leaning. Does it come down to how the question is worded? And then I have this impression that women are more likely to choose unsure or undecided. Is there a politeness thing here, or just not being sanguine about expressing an opinion? What would I say to Gallup, really?

btw I picked Carol too, but that's not "official."

p.s. Your sig made me think of Alan Alda in Crimes and Misdemeanors:

"The thing to remember about comedy is if it bends, it's funny; if it breaks, it's not funny."--Lester from Crimes and Misdemeanors

chance. I think he's definitely electable. He is probably my second choice, so I didn't vote for him here, but I could definitely support him in the general election. But then, I would choose ANY of these guys over Bush*!

34. Just for the Record
Edited on Mon Jul-07-03 02:12 PM by UTUSN
The previous poster's comments regarded a discussion about something entirely different, between him and me. My choice of candidate has absolutely NOTHING to do with "knee-jerk militarism." If anything, I am a laser at knocking down wingnut military-baiters. But thanks for asking.

Just to repeat my rationale for my choice: It has to do with BEATING THE CRAP out of Shrub and who I think can do THAT best.

On Edit: And thanks for the opportunity to use my lethal weapon, SKINNER's 4th of July greeting:

Skinner: "So remember, next time you feel the urge to flame another DUer, that we all share the same hopes and dreams. We are all on the same side. We may not support the same candidates in the primary, but we are ALL capable of treating other people with respect. I am not always perfect in this regard, and I don't expect you to be either. But I do expect everyone to make a real effort. Ask yourself how your actions can help increase understanding, and how you can help bring people together during this time when we need each other so much."

35. IMO Kerry was doing what i believe in
Honoring the fallen.
I am a dove but I would had enlisted in WWII or the Civil War. I believe in many forms of veterans benefits. I always think about those who in my words "never lived to see the peace". The other sad thing is that many died unless in WWII and WWI so there would be no more wars but every time someone dies in a war they probably hoped that would be the last war. WWI was not the war to end all wars sadly.

44. Graham
I want a President who I can count on to protect my environment.
I want a President who knows firsthand the struggles of working Americans.
I want a President who is intelligent and experienced.
I want a President who understands the need to have an open government so that the people can hold it accountable.
I want a President whose campaign has a focus on taking our divided America and bringing it together as one America.
I want a President who not only supports civil rights, but one who has a proud history of appointing minorities to judgeships.
I want a President who will tell ya his stance on an issue loud and clear, even if he knows ya don't agree with it, but because he feels deeply enough about his principles to stand up for himself.
I want a President who is unafraid to speak out against a (surprisingly) popular incumbent, and one who has done so consistently.

I want a President whose name is Bob Graham.

46. If the general election mirrors this poll, Dems are in trouble
Only 596 people voted. I personally did not participate because I support the draftGore movement. As I was looking over the results, I casually wondered how many people fall in the same category as I. Then I quickly added the number of people who voted. The number I quote might be slightly off. Think about the number of people who belong to DU. Low voter turnout -- same as 2002 elections. Something needs to turn around before 2004 if we want Bush* out, as I know we all do.

Sorry to be negative to those that are all excited by Dean ,however I just dont see him unseating bush .I hope Iam 100% wrong and if he is the Dem choice I will gladly vote for him or any Dem nominee ! I also believe that Al Gore would have been the strongest Dem to put up against bush ,and Iam hoping that somehow he ends up back in this race ! Making this statement gives me no joy, it just seems the people are still buswacked , and the lack of honest information being fed them will allow this terrible pResident to win in 04 ! I did vote in the poll for other ,I also believe even if we have to ,we should Draft Gore !

i understand that we can only have so many candidate listed in the poll, but clark is the only credible dem that is not running. the only other undecided, biden, is a dead end. i ask that the DU please conduct another poll that includes clark as a tenth candidate. only then will we get an accurate picture of candidate on the DU.
