3. Chapman should be paroled after Charlie Manson is, not before.

5. The AP report is out now..

"Third time's no charm: Lennon's killer denied parole

The Associated Press

ATTICA, N.Y. — John Lennon’s killer will remain in prison for at least two more years after being denied parole Tuesday because of the “extreme malicious intent” he showed in gunning down the former Beatle.

Mark David Chapman, 49, was notified of the decision late Tuesday after appearing before a three-member panel earlier in the day."

Reported in Daily News just now

7. The guy seems to be mentally ill.
Shouldn't he be treated for a mental illness instead of just being locked away his whole life like some kind of career criminal? I don't know, maybe he's getting treatment too, I'm not an expert.

I'm just saying. Because I think John would have wanted the guy to get treatment, instead of casting the first stone.

8. I was always shocked that the guy who shot Reagan went to..
a psychiatric facility. I don't disagree that he belonged there, as do many schizophrenic criminals, but the test to find someone 'not guilty' by reason of insanity is very difficult to achieve. Maybe DC has different laws or maybe he pleaded.

David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam, entered a plea bargain, rather than go through a trial, and went to prison. I think I've read that he goes to his parole hearings and asks to not be paroled. He is definitely on medication, since I've seen him interviewed and he is quite coherent & cognizent of what he did. (My brother actually was acquainted thru his first marriage, with one of his last victims, a young man who didn't die.)

I was acquainted thru a job with the MD who pronounced Lennon in the ED. He said for a split second he thought he recognized him, but ED docs go into auto-pilot mode when it comes to focusing on the patient. It was only later when he saw Yoko Ono surrounded by police in the waiting room that he knew it was him for sure.

9. Yeah, I'm surprised about that too.
I don't disagree with it either, he was clearly not in touch with reality, but I would have figured Republicans would have formed a posse, broke into the prison, and lynched him. I'm sure he'd be dead if he had killed Reagan.
