Duck & Cover! Ashcroft on private planes for the rest of his term
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2001/07/26/national/main303601.shtml

CBS) Fishing rod in hand, Attorney General John Ashcroft left on a weekend trip to Missouri Thursday afternoon aboard a chartered government jet, reports CBS News Correspondent Jim Stewart.

In response to inquiries from CBS News over why Ashcroft was traveling exclusively by leased jet aircraft instead of commercial airlines, the Justice Department cited what it called a "threat assessment" by the FBI, and said Ashcroft has been advised to travel only by private jet for the remainder of his term.

"There was a threat assessment and there are guidelines. He is acting under the guidelines," an FBI spokesman said. Neither the FBI nor the Justice Department, however, would identify what the threat was, when it was detected or who made it.

A senior official at the CIA said he was unaware of specific threats against any Cabinet member, and Ashcroft himself, in a speech in California, seemed unsure of the nature of the threat.

1. It's one of the corperate perks for this Administration.
Plus the fact I don't think he has a much faith in God as he likes everyone to believe.

6. The FBI reports to him.
Ya gotta wonder how encouraged they were to make their "threat assessment."

3. I agree with the threat assessment
being forced to sit next to John Ashcroft on a cross country flight presents a significant threat to airline passengers' mental health and well being.

7. Doesn't that make it worse?
He was doing it when he didn't have a threatening reason to?

9. This is bullshit.
That fucker should have to fly commercial and be harrassed at airports just like the rest of us :grr:

And that goes for the rest of the Fraudministration as well.

Yeah, I know it's become a tradition for the President to have his own plane (Air Force One), but I think it's only fair that Junior prove his faith in his own "Homeland Security" department by waiting in line at the airport and checking his bags like the rest of us.

I have no objection to him and his Secret Service detail flying First Class - as long as it comes out of Shrub's own pocket. He can certainly afford it.

11. If this is true, then he is a big liar.
He was on TV the other day saying that he and his family fly commerical aircraft all the time and would continue doing so. What a crock of Crisco.

13. As long as he doesn't break the "no helicoptering to golf course" rule.
Then he'd really be in trouble.

14. Ashcroft said he was flying commercial all August.
He said it on one of the Sunday shows. Him and his family.

Lying prick.
