BBV: Votewatch closing voter campaign

Votewatch is launching a campaign to have volunteers gather vote totals (federal offices only - president & congress) at precincts, as well as capture an image (digital camera needed) of the precinct totals as posted by elections staff.

http://votewatch.us/participate/closing_voter

That data, and the image, will be uploaded to the Votewatch site after the election. They will use this information to audit election results.

This seems a very worthwhile campaign, and I would like the community to seriously consider joining me in supporting their efforts.

PLEASE SIGN UP, AND PLEASE KEEP THIS KICKED

5. Evening kick
Everyone is worried about how to safeguard the vote against unreliable voting machines, and for you lurkers, this is a non-partisan effort.

Please people - this is for democracy! I need folks from all sides of the debate, left/center/right, to do this with us.

If we all participate, if we all look and try to agree, perhaps in 2005 we can move foreard with an election that nobody challenges.

That would be really good for America.

Please join us in this important work.

9. keep kicking, but we need
SIGNUPS please!

Please let us know when you have signed up, and think about what groups you belong to.

Are you a member of a local peace and freeedom group? Do you do campaign work with a Kerry or other Democratic Party team? Do you lurkers work with a local group?

What we need is as dense coverage of specific areas as possible. Please sign up, and figure out how you can get 10 others to agree as well.

10. Back up
Hey, can we also get information on how many absentee ballots are sent out vs. how many come back?

That might be out of the scope of this project.

I'll get on my soap box again-

Voting absentee is better than no paper at all.

TAKE your ballot to the appropriate county office, if at all possible.

Do not mail it if you don't have to, as long as your state has some latitude that way.

It's not that the mail might not do a good job, but there is a non-delivery rate already with the mail.

Remember that a lot of the mail ballot handling is outsourced- and out of sight- of much scrutiny.

Volunteer to "watch" the absentee ballot process too, especially if the ballots are shipped out of the auditor's office.

Keep this kicked and sign up!

12. How about some screen shots at home?
Maybe folks who can't go to the polls can make a file of screen shots through the day, and compare then with after the election.

Screen shots of vote totals and precints.

Need the in-person stuff at the polls the most.

16. Nothing Works If Your Vote Doesn't
You can win debates, maybe even polls, but it's nothing if the vote doesn't count- as you intended.

Help yourself help democracy- join and make sure we have clean elections.
