Bush claims Jenna "felt terrible about" the "tongue incident"
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/30/politics/campaign/30bush.html?ex=1254283200&en=50429d707ffb0f3e&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt

Mr. Bush spoke of the importance of offering children "unconditional love," and when asked whether he spanked his twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara, when they were young, responded, "Not really." He said they "were normal teenagers, and at times very difficult," and he described what happened when Jenna, riding in his limousine with him, recently stuck her tongue out at journalists.

"And I said, 'Jenna, you just made national news,' " he said. "I said, 'You've got to be careful. You're in a fishbowl, and whether you like it or not, every move you make, particularly when you're with me, will be recorded.' And I think she felt terrible about it."

11. Throwing them at the wall when they fuck up isn't technically "spanking"
so he's technically right.

(a college for the wealthy but tremendous scholarship program for those who don't have money). However, several students escorted out because had signs, coffins, etc. I loved one of the signs it read: Mary Kate & Ashley--Go Home!!!!!!!!!!

13. The real story . . .
Mr. Bush spoke of the importance of paying attention to your children "when the spirit moves you", and when asked whether he spanked his twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara, when they were young, responded, "Not really . . . maybe when Laura felt in the mood . . . don't print that or you're on a one-way plane to Guantanamo." He said between tumblers full of gin that they "were normal teenagers; you know, drunk and stoned every other night and with turnstile crotches" and he described what happened when Jenna, riding in his limousine with him, recently stuck her tongue out at journalists.

"And I said, 'you stupid bitch, what's the goddamned Christian commun'ty gonna think' " he said. "I said, 'Get your head out of that shopworn ass of yours. You're in a fishbowl, and whether you like it or not, every move you make, particularly when you're gargling loads in DC bathrooms, will be recorded.' Between bong hits and line snorts, she told me to fuck off. Kids. Can't live with 'em, can't draft 'em (wink)."

16. This shouldn't be an issue-who cares if she stuck her tongue out?
She's not running for President. I actually don't blame her for resenting the media, they cross the line frequently when covering presidential children, whether it's the twins or Chelsea Clinton.

I'll never forget the day of the Columbine shooting, when the authorities were still evacuating the kids from the school, and there are all the representatives of the tv news stations sticking their microphones in the faces of these traumatized kids. They have no sense of decency.

24. Bush on kids: "Mine are a pain in the ass." (from July Vanity Fair)
I posted this in July. No link - typed in from the hard copy:

The quote is from the current issue of Vanity Fair (August 2004), from an article by Christopher Hitchens (a famous imbiber) on the subject of George W. Bush's purported alcoholism. Hitchens suggests Bush might do better to drink a little more.

Hitchens:

"Above all, I think Ms. Laura keeps him in order. The twins are now old enough to violate local drinking ordinances on their own (Bush concealed his D.U.I. conviction for so long, he says, because he didn't want to set them a bad example), but their mother still stands between the little apples and the tree. A prominent senator told me not that long ago that, while visiting the president, he had complimented him on the desk photos of his girls. "You have children?" Bush asked. "Oh yes, Mr. President." "You like them?" "Of course, Mr. President." Without pausing, Bush said, "Mine are a pain in the ass." The impressive thing, said my informant, was the Aztec-like straightness of Bush's face as he said this. Perhaps he resents them because they can cut loose and tipple, and he can't. "Every morning Bush wakes up knowing one thing for absolute certain," says one who has known him, "Today is a day on which he will not have a drink."
