My house was destoyed by Jeanne, but worse, I had no DU access.
I just got lucky and found a place to move after my roof blew off and my ceilings caved in, insulation all over everything I own. Fortunately we are ok. Four neighbors are in the same situation, as I am sure many others in Sarasota.

Wearing face masks in order to clean out our belongings and running around setting up a new place to live keeps you right in the present. However, the only news I was able to get about the elections was from newspapers and periodic tv from someone else's house when I visited for a few minutes. And of course, everything from those news sources sounds like Kerry is going down and should maybe consider not even debating.

How happy am I this morning to be back online and at DU where there are insanely normal people I can get rational news from? VERY fucking happy.

Haven't had time to read much, but caught madfloridians post. Hope everyone is OK.

14. A heartfelt thanks
Fortunately, or unfortunately, we did not own our place. We had no rental insurance neither. By miracle, I called a rental ad and found some really good people who rented us a nice villa with no hassle. They let us move in immediately.

The bad thing is that all out belongings are saturated with mold and insulation. BUT, could be worse. At least I don't live in Haiti.

I lost power for three days and some shingles, but that was the worst of it.

Sorry to hear about your roof and ceilings, :-( but glad to hear that you were able to find a new place, and glad you're able to get back onto DU!

Welcome back to sanity. ;-)

13. So sad for your loss!
There are not even words, really.

Speaking of the news.....we for the first time listened to the local radio stations here. It terrified us, and I wanted to say chalk Florida off. They are so right wing. But I still have hope.

I don't think people will ever understand what damage has been wrought here these last few weeks. It is going to be long-lasting and it is NOT just physical.

16. Very glad to hear you're alright.
Sorry to hear about the house! :( I missed a lot, too. Jeanne also took up a lot of my time over the last week. Fortunately, we came through short a few porch screens, but that's it.

I'm really sick of hurricanes. I can't imagine how you feel. Good luck.

PS: Kerry will win...big.

23. It's been unbelievable, hasn't it?
I mean, if eight weeks ago you had written a movie script that had three hurricanes hitting the same area (two making landfall just eight miles apart), you'd have been laughed out of the producer's office. Now, it would be too predictable.

I'm seeing a lot of people who look to me, in my very non-professional opinion, like they are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress. I guess that's to be expected.

17. So glad that you and yours are well. I am sorry about your lose
and hope that the rebuilding goes well. If a Mississippian can help in any way, pmail me.

Kerry is not going down, the repukes are having difficulty with the fact that * is losing in the polls and even their most slanted polls only show * w/an 8 point lead. Now the repukes are trying to spin why their polls are unreliable.

Keep your chin up and take care.

21. Glad you are alright
we have made it thru three of them and just happy to be here and not blown away! My mom is now with us, she lives in vero beach, she had minor damage, no power yet, So lucky, half her park is gone. She is 89 and the heat is too much, so she will be with us till she has some AC. Still wants to live in her place and no where else. It was hard to talk her into leaving before the storm. Tough lady!
I think many people will be moving out of Fl.the distruction is so wide spread.

I hope everything gets taken care of quickly. I also hope this is the last storm you guys take a hit from.
I used to live in Sarasota and still have friends on Siesta Key. I hope they managed to get through it. I can't seem to get ahold of them.
