We Live In an Orwellian-Kafkaesque Nightmare Reality
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 07:16 PM by Beetwasher
It's quite fascinating really, seeing it happen before your eyes.

I'm quite convinced "the media" has created a vast illusion of popularity for an unpopular man. I really am.

I think there are many more people out there who want change in this country and that there is a truly vast, malignant, ubiquitous distortion being carried out by the "mainstream media" to create the illusion that the opposite is true.

Is it a conspiracay? Yes, it is, centralized to some degree, but also loosely configured, directed by a common understanding of nihilsm among a set of elite individuals.

I believe on an intuitive level, with no rock solid proof, but lot's of evidence, that the game is quite thoroughly rigged. With phony polls and phony votes and phony, regurgigated opinions aimed at character destruction. And there is a definitive shield built around and protecting a thourougly pathetic character by this beast called "the media".

The majority of the people in this country want to change the leadership and through a brazen and grotesque manipulation of public perception it is being made to seem exactly the opposite. This is being done for several obvious reasons. The main one being; If you're going to cheat, cheat big and I fear they will and "the media" will be their cover.

This is not to say give up, but know the fight will be hard and frought with peril.

I just read 1984 a couple weeks ago. It scared me so much I was in shock of how much our society was turning into it...and how much of it was similar. Makes me fear Ashcroft more.

3. Aldous Huxley called. He demands you mention his name, too.
Four years ago the world was 3 parts Huxley, 1 part Orwell. Now it's 3 parts Orwell, one part Huxley.

For proof your prediction is not a fluke, look back 4 years to what they did to Al Gore. On Oct. 8, 2000, Gore was down 8 points in the polls, being blasted and maligned nightly on the cable gab-fests, and generally castigated by the print media.

As it turns out, Gore was just a warm-up for the big event: re-selecting Idiot-boy ... and this was before anyone knew what dastardly deeds Bush was capable of committing.

It will keep them ANGRY, you see, and provide cover because of the remaining "lscentiousness" that is uncharacteristic of Totalitarian Nation.

But ours is NEW. Something unique.

5. This bullshit has been around for some time...
in fact since Orwell's time, and before that....It's our time to fight this, just like the generations before us had to. The USA is not immune to fascist insanity, and we are looking ahead at another bloodbath, because that seems to be the only thing that these assholes want. When it's over there may be a period of peace...before it starts again. The Greeks believed that history was a circle...we in the USA have just begun this cycle of murder and tragedy...it may destroy the nation and knock some sense into us(collectively). We are in for some dark days either way, as we travel down this tired old road.

Rumsfailed Admitted to Violating Geneva Convention

Rumsfailed admitted in public on TV that when CIA Director Tenet requested that an Iraqi prisoner be sent to a secret Afghan/US Prison that Rumsfailed did so. After four months a DOD Attorney stated that this was an illegal act. Rumsfailed then ordered that this prisoner be sent back to Abu Graihib but the prisoner was purposefully not listed at that location, also an illegal act.

Rumfailed has commited at least two violations of the Geneva Convention; thereby also violations of The Constitution of the USA. Recently it has been found out that even more detainees were "ghost detainees". The fact that Rumsfailed and Tenet have not been charged speaks volumes. If Congress wishes to garner any respect they should move forward with Rep. Rangle's Impeachment Declaration of Rumsfailed and also proscecute Ex. CIA Tenet.

Does the US, Govt., Congress, and the Justice Dept no longer abide by the Geneva Convention or the Constitution of the USA?

It is obvious that this is the case!.

....not exactely kafkaesque or orwellian, but the concept is interesting...everything has moved away to becomind a representation of itself and we see the world in quotation marks.

Or something like that.

So, in such a society, the media can craft preceptions and model reality.

11. Yes, your post is ringing bells here
I swear that the some in the media (some obviously, not all) can't even see the propanganda that is as clear as anything. They believe in their myth of both sides. They believe what they are told. IF they don't question what they are told, what hope is there for those they are giving the information to?

A true majority of this country really do not want this man in office-I believe that as well.

This side is never given the light of day in mainstream media. Even here on DU, I swear many are pursuaded by the talking points of the day, by the innuendos, by the polls, against what they see with their own eyes and feel in their gut.

The media only presents it as hate, as something to be afraid of. WE don't hate Bush we hate what he does and what he stands for. A record of stirring, obvious incompetence and failure. Those are not opinions-those are facts. The economic numbers are facts. The no WMD, the no link to Al Queda are facts. And yet they allow these so called leaders to present the other side-the other side is a lie. It's a lie. It's not an other side. It's a lie.

Here's a tip: Propagnada obscures facts and instead gives up stirring emotions.

The swiftboaters. 9/11. Iraq. The media doesn't give us facts, it gives us this propaganda of emotion.

That's the entirety of the Bush strategy.

19. We know that the Media is complicit in this distortion.
They are part and parcel of the facist takeover we are experiencing. The Coup happened in 2000. This year is window dressing. Unless a huge number of previous non voters turn out they will steal the election again. If that happens, I think all pretense of democracy will be put aside. Dick halliburton, the Chimpster and the Bugman will turn up the heat and we will be boiled before we realize what's happened to us. The water is still luke warm and we can only turn off the stove if we get out the vote and make Kerry the indisputed winner by sheer numbers.

17. I dont think its an illusion...
I think about half the country honestly likes him more then Kerry. Dont inject tin foil craziness into a simple election. Is there any accident you wouldnt call a conspiracy? Sometimes the simplest answer IS the correct one.

This type of lunacy is whats going to drive the middle away from our party. The sad part is most people have no clue how polarized they really are - on both sides.

Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 09:15 PM by Beetwasher
My post is going to drive the middle away from our party? How pathetically delusional of you. My post is no more than an ant fart in a hurricane. Last time I checked "our party" wouldn't touch or be associated w/ my notions if they were uttered by christ himself. And last time I checked I still didn't speak for "our party".

Yes, believe what the tv tells you. It can't be wrong! Here, have some more kool aid. It can't happen here! Pathetic.

20. Did you take the brown acid???
This doesn't reflect conspiracy. Do you doubt we're moving towards fascism, if we're not already there? Who wrote chimpy's environmental, banking, medicare laws and regs? The lobbiests and corporate schills he's appointed. Congress has had no say whatsoever in many of the policies that now rule the land.

This isn't a "simple eelction." this is the election of the Century. Kerry may be only "going backwards less quickly," but he will certainly have a positive impact compared to this group.

The Political Economy of the Mass Media
by EDWARD S. HERMAN, NOAM CHOMSKY

...

"In sum, the mass media of the United States are effective and powerful ideological institutions that carry out a system-supportive propaganda function by reliance on market forces, internalized assumptions and self-censorship, and without significant overt coercion. This propaganda system has become even more efficient in recent decades with the rise of the national television networks, greater mass-media concentration right-wing pressures on public radio and television, and the growth in scope and sophistication of public relations and news management."
