1. I'd let Canada attach whatever states would like to join them
the rest can sort themselves out however they like.

Would Jesus love a liberal? You bet!

6. Did you read Ecotopia, by Ernest Callenbach?
Northern California, Oregon and Washington state split off to form the country of Ecotopia, dedicated to living in harmony with nature and, by extension, in balance with most things. They reduce, reuse, and recycle, they forego private automobiles, they harness the power of the sun (while the rest of the USA builds more nuclear plants)-- it's a tree-huggers' paradise, and I kinda wish it would happen.

5. I would separate the citizens based on IQ tests.
Then I would let the smart people decide how to divide the actual land. I would love to live in a world without stupid people. Of course they can visit and do all of the jobs that smart people do not want to do. I want to live in the United State of Smarty Pants.

10. other
I would divide the population between sane policy adherents and insane policy adherents(bush supporters). I would send the insane policy adherents to many of our barrier islands and the leave the rest of the US for us.

12. There are natural and political boundaries already in place...
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 12:02 PM by chaska
use those for your dividing lines. CA, OR and WA are obvious enough. That's one. From TX, to VA probably excluding FL, that's another. Pretty obvious stuff really.

...and it should happen. It would solve a lot of problems.

15. Simple solution
There's only one state that was ever its own country -- Texas. I say we un-annex it. Make it the Lone Star Republic again. Bush can no longer serve as President, since he's a foreign national. Also, we could keep the rest of the South, as without Texas they'd have a hard time coming up with the electoral votes to beat the rest of the country in presidential elections.

Yup. that's the answer -- return to the Lone Star Republic.

17. 7 Nation-states
California, Oregon and Washington would be "Pacifica" (Democratic republic)

The Western/Mountain States would be "Montana" (Parliamentary Democracy)

Texas and Oklahoma would be "Locolandia" (Monarchy)

The Midwest would be "Cornia" (Democratic republic)

The south, down to central Florida would be "DixieReich" (Fascistic Oligarchy)

The southern tip of Florida would officially become "Cuba Norte" (Fascistic Oligarchy)

The Northeast would be "Metropolis" (Democratic republic)

Voila!
