Priceless letter to the editor
This is just too funny

http://www.polkonline.com/stories/110298/obi_godless.shtml

The liberal attitudes are greatly damaging our society. Agree with me or not, but the liberal attitude usually moves in a direction diametrically opposed to Scripture.

but then the realization sets in that these are probably 25% of the voters who will otherwise vote against their best interests in the name of god and shit.

This is what we are up against.

16. More than 25 percent
Almost half of the GOP electorate are "fundamentalists" and "Evangelicals." Not to say all of these people are crazy, but a Polling Report survey found that 25 percent of fundamentalists, and 31 percent of Evangelicals believe THAT THE LITERAL EVENTS IN REVELATION WILL TAKE PLACE WITHIN their lifetime.

And the chick that wrote this letter might not even be THAT fucking crazy. She never said the rapture was coming in her lifetime -- it's quite possible that she's more sane than the others.

17. the idea of the rapture is no more nutty
than any other part of religion. If you can believe there is some all powerful being, why does the use of this power make it more nutty?

19. I guess it's not so much the idea of the Rapture
but the idea that they think that it will happen in their lifetime. That's what scares me -- because it took someone to convince them of this -- to whip them up, you know. The Bible gives no evidence of when this supposed shit is supposed to go down -- it departs from even your normal crazy religious stuff. Of course, this is just my opinion. I agree that anyone who claims to "know" there's a God is a delusional whack-o, though. We see eye to eye on that.

23. I wonder if any of these people have actually read Revelations
I have (and I'm Catholic; who says we don't read the bible) and I defy anyone to make head-nor-tail of that thing.

I read a theory (by a Catholic priest) years ago that stated Revelations might actually have been written as some kind of code to comfort the persecuted Christians of Nero's time. Makes as much sense as anything else I suppose.

OMG, when did we pass through the vortex and into the parallel universe?
This is absolutely stunning. Thanks for posting it.
Where is this newspaper published? Does it always run this crap?

"Vote Republican. Help cleanse our society of filth and Godlessness."
Yeah, right.

I guess it's not Godlessness to start a war based on lies and that kills over a thousand of our young people.

This woman is insane. End of story.

25. Reminds me of one of those "anti-dancing" folk...
...who wouldn't let the kids have a junior prom because "Have you seen how they dance? They look like they'd drop to the ground at any minute and start fornicating!"

And I remember thinking: "I remember MY junior prom. We danced just like that and NOT ONE of the girls would just drop to the ground and start fornicating with me!"

How easy it is to rail against a fantasy boogeyman.

3. That really is scary...
and I see it all the time in my conservative stronghold county newspaper, the Press Enterprise. What cracks me up is that the paper chooses, among untold thousands of candidates no less, the letters from the right-wing wackos singing to the fundamentalist choir.

8. God, oh, God....
My favorite:

"God was a very big part of our early history, and the colonies everyday life."

... as was burning "witches" at the stake; crushing "warlocks" under hundreds of pounds of stones; tarring and feathering; the list goes on.... (and that includes during the Revolution!)

Thanks, bluestateguy, you've enabled me to go to bed laughing... :yourock:

"Vote Republican. Help cleanse our society of filth and Godlessness."

Here she refers to local society, simple and means "send the Reeps to Washington DC"-- sort of like an interrment camp. Many Texans actually voted for GW in '00 so he'd go away and stop wreckin' Texas.

21. Well, the biggest error made
Was in stating that the Founding Fathers meant this to be a Christian nation. Any reading done on Jefferson, Franklin, etc., shows them to have been Deists, and not practitioners of any religion. The inclusion of faith-based concepts were two fold: to get the religious majority behind the cause, and because, agreeably, a lot of the ideas behind Christianity made for good laws at the time.

24. posts from another forum
"The notion that the GOP is ultra right wing is false. The GOP today IS moderate compared with years past. In the 60's, everyone including Ted Kennedy was pro-life. GWB would have been classed as a moderate republican in 1964 because of his big government spending. The problem is, the entire country has shifted to the left, including the republican party."

followed by: "I don't know, there are a lot of similarities between GWB and JFK, I think Dubya would have been a moderate democrat."

things like that just make my head hurt.

Scary to think that people like that are wandering the streets in America.. and she actually SIGNED her name to that wandering diatribe. What an embarrassment! As the descendent of some rather notable people in the Colony days... I beg to differ with her on what my forefathers had in mind.
