1. I wonder if people are making the SAME mistake I did
Which is answering NO he should not have been barred, and of course I hit the wrong answer. Of course it didnt allow me to retract.

Next time I will watch the way it is worded!

11. Jack Straw told Colin Powell that Cat should NOT have been deported.
They obviously know him pretty well in England and think he is NO threat and there was no reason for him being on watch list.

2. Well, with a subversive song like "Peace Train"
You gotta figure the guy hates America, right?

I mean, how has peace ever put money into Dick Cheney's overstuffed pockets?

3. Putrid.
If a harmless hippie singer can be disallowed passage into the States, why does the Bush cartel, who have roots of support linking them to the Third Reich get a free pass? I think they all ought to be deported or brought up on charges of treason.

5. I am not opposed to keeping him out
As a fundamentalist who supported the Fatwa against Salman Rushdie, I for one, do not trust him. Maybe I approach this from the left, but he is no harmless hippie. Dennis Miller was funny once, remember? I hate to be the stinker at the party, but any fewer fundies , of any class, be it Jewish, Christian,Muslim,Hindu, are undesireables and should be kept out.

8. he did not support the Rushdie fatwa. That's a Lie.
He tried to explain the fatwa and was misconstrued. Please get your facts straight.

12. He certainly DID support the fatwa!
It may be painful to admit, but Cat Stevens DID support the fatwa. Sure, he tried to distance himself from these comments, but there is ample print and tape evidence to the fact that he supported, though did not sign, the fatwa.

Why, pray tell, are so many folks rushing to his defense on this matter? He certainly didn't deserve to be rejected from entry to US, but, please, folks, don't let your nostalgia for his music determine your view of the total man.

13. lets assume he wanted Rushdie kilt
BFD. IS there a one of us who wouldnt like to see lethal misfortune befall someone? Have we not seen posters proclaim their support for preemptive assassinations, as ghastly and ill considered as that is?
What happened here has nothing to do with fatwas or security, it was simply or government stealing our freedom and throwing logs on the bonfire that soon will be Iran. I cant believe how shortsighted and bigoted some/many people are. They cant all be freepers.

14. You can't see the contradiction in your own words?
- You're saying we should be prejudiced against him for his beliefs and WORDS. On the other hand you say that he should have been allowed in the US.

- Keeping anyone out of the US should be based on a real security threat...not prejudice.

16. Stinks
Something stinks ..

...
"Right now, under the rules we get the information (about passenger boardings) at Homeland Security, I believe it's 15 minutes after the plane takes off," Hutchinson said.

"There's a gap there, so obviously the rules have to be changed governing the comparison of passenger names with a watch list of people suspected of terrorist links, Hutchinson acknowledged in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."
...
His Homeland Security Department had said Wednesday that the incident involving Islam in which his plane was diverted to Bangor, Maine and he was intercepted by federal agents demonstrates why the government should take over the screening responsibility from the airlines.
...
While in Washington in May, Islam met with officials of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives "to talk about philanthropic work," according to White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan, who said the meeting occurred before Islam was added to the no-fly list.
...
end quote

Hutchison is the under secretary for homeland security. And, he BELIEVES they get the information 15 mins after takeoff?
If he doesn't know, who DOES?

What was that meeting about? What implicated him at that point, to be added to the "no-fly" list?

Something really stinks. As usual.

20. Blair is up for re-election this is great!
I love what this is going to do to British opinion although Islam (aka Cat Stevens) unfortunately is a wee bit of a psycho. He came out in favor of the death sentence of Rushdie back about 10 years ago when it was ordered by a muslim cleric.
