At least the ones in the Senate:

ASHINGTON, Sept. 22 — Representative Porter J. Goss, the Florida Republican who until recently was chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, was confirmed by the Senate today as the next director of central intelligence.

The Senate voted, 77 to 17, late this afternoon to approve Mr. Goss's nomination. His confirmation had been regarded as a certainty since the Senate Intelligence Committee endorsed his nomination, 12 to 4, on Tuesday.

But Mr. Goss's confirmation seemed to be assured when it became obvious that he had the unanimous backing of Republicans and more than a few Democrats.

2. Why fight a battle where there is no need to fight one....

After Kerry gets elected, Goss will be out as soon as Kerry selects a CIA Director of his own. Of course, Kerry's choice will have to be confirmed as per usual procedure.

3. The democrats played this the right way.

If they oppose him, odds are they fail. Even if they succeeded in delaying it and putting it off, they end up looking like obstructionists. Like petty politicians who will hold up the government to hurt Bush. This is how people read situations like that. And for what?

If Bush wins, we are gonna get a crazy head of the CIA, end of story.

If Kerry wins, we can replace him immediately.

So why take an action that can only hurt your image to accomplish nothing.
