This fact blows away right wingers who think we can win Iraq
Fundamentalist Muslims believe separation of church and
state is a SIN. So how in the world can we bring democracy to an area of the world where a large number believe democracy is a SIN?
By crushing freedom of religion? Didn't the USA just criticize Saudia Arabia for this, just this week?

Most people I have talked to do not realize that extremist Muslims view democracy as a sin, that to them, law comes from God, and God's law (oops Allah's) must rule all of life, including government.

1. Uhhh... MOST "wingers" dont think that separation of church
and state is a requirement for democracy (in the US anyways...).

Here is the text of an email I wrote to a local talkshow host Stacy Taylor. I messed up the "Operation..." part but you get the drift.

Stacy,

So as the reasons for occupying Iraq have changed, due to political expediency, an issue still bothers me regarding the current reason(excuse if you will) for being there.
That would be "Operation Iraqi Liberation". Give me a break.

I was totally against this Iraq adventure. My position was, and is, that in response to 9/11 the USA should have, with the world helping, hunted down Osama, rebuilt Afghanistan as an example(although I am not big on "nation building"), and secured our borders and ports. Instead we have a Bush's Vietnam.

Now for the main flaw toward "liberating" Iraq, as I see it.
As you know, Iraq is made up of varied ethnic, tribal, secular, and religious groups that don't get along with each other and that fact has been engrained for ten's of thousands of years. Why on God's green earth did the American public buy into the notion that the USA could march in there and the Iraqi people would embrace our 200 year old experiment we call democracy? We are talking about 1000's of years of varied cultures steeped in certain beliefs and now they are just supposed to due an about face and give that up for the "American Way"?
Does Mr. and Mrs. Joe America think these people are going to drop thier traditions to embrace our way of life because we roll in the tanks and troops?
And when they don't then King George proclaims that they, "Hate our freedoms"? WTF?

This is insanity to me Stacy. I have to come to the conclusion that, since not much debate has taken place regarding my observation, the public at large is "dumbed down" quite a bit. Hence Bush pulling 50% in the polls.

Good day,
Ted from Encinitas

6. It's more complicated than that... Saudis are not all FUNDYs
The practice of Muslim law, Sharia, varies according to the MEN who interpret the laws...

A repressive regime is repressive whether it is cloaked in religion of not...

Islam and Democracy ARE NOT incompatible...

Find some other way to befuddle your freep friends... shouldn't be too hard.

7. I know there are variations. What I am saying is that some
Muslims can never support democracy. And true freedom is the freedom of self-determination.....which does not necessarily lead to democracy.
Osama and Al Qaeda believe that God's law is the law, and you can not live under a separate law system without sin. One of my very best friends is Muslim; she doesn't hold to this version. But others do, and who are we to try to force otherwise? It just won't work.

8. It would probably make them want to kill Muslims even more.
I always like to ask them if it's OK to abort Muslim fetuses or do you have to wait until they are born to kill them.

10. That's beautiful, leesa
I like to ask them how many pregnant Iraqi women they pulled out of Iraq before they carpet-bombed it. Curious, do they ever give an answer?

No one ever has one for me. Suddenly the pro-life freepers have nothing to say about the sanctity of life. Isn't that convenient?

9. We've already lost.
The only question now is how many people will die before the rightwingnuttery admits it.
