Support The Bush Bashing Rockbands :-D
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 02:24 PM by InfoMinister
I think everyone here knows about PABAAH, the group who is trying to boycott groups for questioning George W. Bush. I think it's time we supported the bands and got something started like back in the 60's. Remember all of the anti-war songs and how pop culture embraced these views? That doesn't seem to be happening nearly as much as today and one reason why is all of these Republicans boycotting anything that has a different point of view from their own. Here are some of the groups I've seen mentioned over at PABAAH.

Alternative
Ani Di Franco, A Perfect Circle, Beastie Boys, Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker, Dave Matthews, Eminem, Green Day, Jello Biafra, KMFDM, Ministry, Moby, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, NOFX, Ohgr, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, R.E.M., Santana, Sheryl Crow, Skinny Puppy, Sting, Tool, U2, Roger Waters, Zack De La Rocha

Classic Rock
Crosby-Nash, Elton John, John Mellencamp, Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen, Jethro Tull, Neil Young

Country
Dixie Chicks, Steve Earle, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson

Pop
Madonna, George Michael

Hip Hop
Jadakiss, Public Enemy

On Letterman a group called Green Day played a song called American Idiot on the same day as Kerry was on. I think that one would be a good one to request. There's also No W by Ministry and there's a song by A Perfect Circle called Pet that's pretty good. They remixed it and made an anti-bush video out of it. Also, there's Skinny Puppy with Pro-Test. Good luck if you want to try doing this and post some more songs you can think of that are directly related to current events. Below is a list of alternative rock stations. I need to get a list started of country, pop, and classic rock.

There's going to be a dude dressed up as Bush at the concerts. He's a poster on a board called Litany. You can read up on what happened to him when he played Bush onstage during No W on their forum:

Anyone think those would be effective? Like the ones we have on the media section of DU. Several of them use e-mail and if we could send our state requests all at one time it could be effective.

American Idiot by Green Day has been #1 on the "hitlist" on 89x radio in Detroit for about a week. It's a fun song, but I'm already a little tired of it. 87.7 FM, CIMX, out of Windsor,Ontario 313-298-7999.

12. This is one of my favorite anti-Bush songs!
:D It's called "It's A Hit" by Rilo Kiley:

Any chimp can play human for a day.
Use his opposable thumbs to iron his uniform
and run for office on election day
fancy himself a real decision maker
and deploy more troops than salt shakers

But it's a jungle when war is made
and you'll panic and throw your own shit at the enemy
The camera pulls back to reveal your true identity
Look, it's a sheep in wolf's clothing
A smoking gun holding ape

Any asshole can open up a museum
Put all of the things he loves on display
so everyone could see them
The house, a car, a thoughtful wife
ordinary moments in his ordinary life

But if she breaks a smile, she'll give you away
cause no one wants to pay to see your happiness
No one wants to pay to see your day to day
and I'm not buying it either
but I'll try selling it anyway

Any idiot can play Greek for a day
and join a sorority or write a tragedy
and articulating all that pain
and maybe you'll get paid

but it's a sin when success complains
and your writers block, it don't mean shit
Just throw it against the wall and see what sticks
Gotta write a hit
I think this is it
It's a hit

And if it's not
then it's a holiday for hanging
yeah it's a holiday for hanging
yeah it's a holiday for hanging
yeah it's a holiday for hanging
yeah shoo bop shoo bop my baby

Any fool can play executioner for a day,
and say with fingers pointed in both directions
he went thataway
It's only a switch or syringe,
exempt from eternal sins.
But you still wear a cross,
and you think you're gonna get in

Ah, but the pardons never come from upstairs
They're always a moment too late
but it's entertainment
keep the crowd on their toes
it's justice, we're safe.
It's not a hit, it's a holiday
shoo bop shoobop, my baby

It's a holiday for hangin, yeah
It's a holiday for hangin, yeah
It's a holiday for hangin, yeah
It's a holiday for hangin, yeah

I'm a holiday for hangin,
I'm a holiday for hangin,
I'm a holiday yeah
I'm a holiday for hangin,

It's a holiday for hangin', yeah

16. Props for the post but
Shouldn't Santana be under Classic, not Alternative?

NOFX's "Idiot Son of an Asshole" is the catchiest bush-bashing song, but can it be played in those uptight swing states?

17. Santana Did Those Recent Songs
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 02:31 PM by InfoMinister
He won a bunch of grammies just a few years for the songs that are currently being played the most. He's played today on a lot of alternative rock stations. I'd say he belongs on both.

I'm about to start looking up some country, pop, and hip hop stations. It'll probably take awhile.

I remember reading that they're on the Rock Against Bush CD. I've heard of them but I've never listened to them.

26. Maroon 5 should be added..
.. check out their website. They're openly political, and have a link to Moveon.org, I believe.

28. Roger Waters Has 2 new songs available on his website
http://www.roger-waters.com/

The song To Kill The Child has some jabs at Blair and Bush in it.
Rog had been quiet for too long, I was wondering when he was going to get around to sticking it to Bush...
